Googs Track in South Australia is located a short drive North of Ceduna. In September 2015 I completed a solo crossing in my Land Rover Defender over 4 days. Googs Track is a single vehicle track crossing 363 sand dunes from South to North. It passes through the Yumbarra Conservation Park and Yellabinna Regional Reserve.
The Track was constructed by John ‘Goog’ Denton between 1976 to 1979. It is 4wd only access due to the sandy dunes, not suitable for soft roaders. There are no facilities along its route so travellers much be totally self sufficient for fuel, food and water. A sand flag is highly recommended.
Highlights along the track are Googs Lake and Mount Finke, both providing basic campsites.
I completed the exploration from Ceduna ending in Glendambo, an approximate distance of 570km. Goog’s Track is a well known trail for 4WD and adventure enthusiasts.
