Special beam signed by President Obama installed at the top of One World Trade Center.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Tishman Construction and Five Star Electric have collaborated to light the under-construction building -- which is now at 86 floors -- to commemorate this important cause. For more than a quarter century, October has been the month to highlight breast cancer awareness, with pink used to symbolize the efforts to combat the disease by raising funds for research, prevention and cure.

"The Port Authority has made a commitment to being part of the fight to find a cure for breast cancer," said Deputy Executive Director Bill Baroni. "By lighting One World Trade Center pink, we join millions of New Yorkers and New Jerseyans dedicated to raising awareness and finding a cure."

Subway sandwich shop open at One World Trade Center.

Progress continues at the World Trade Center site.

The Subway container was hoisted to the fifth deck of One World Trade Center, and it will move up as the tower continues to rise.
