First off because according to the bible, he possessed great powers to heal the sick and help the poor. However, he didn't do anything in life until the age of 30 - obviously putting his own selfish agenda ahead of others. Then, why waste time turning water into wine for the drunks or walking on water to amuse tourists when noble work could have been done.
In another incident, Jesus wanted some figs but the tree was fruitless, so he killed the tree.
"Early the next morning, Jesus was going back to the city. He was very hungry. He saw a fig tree beside the road and went to get a fig from it. But there were no figs on the tree. There were only leaves. So Jesus said to the tree, "You will never again produce fruit!" The tree immediately dried up and died."
Mark. 11:12-14
Why didn't Jesus make some figs or fish or bread instead of killing the poor tree ? Yes, Jesus was an asshole.
I am proud to be an Atheist ... having given up on all fairy tales by the age of 12 or so. I am extremely happy in life, surround myself with friends and do not worry about such nonsense as god, heaven and hell.
Religious folks on the other hand, have to worry about their every action and whether or not they are received into heaven. Gambling is a sin, sex without the intent to procreate is a sin, overindulgence is a sin, failing to worship on Sunday is sin, Using Lord's name in vain is a sin. I'd say most of you are doomed.
I am sure that some Christians dismiss some of these sins as minor or misinterpreted and 'do not apply'. I am simply many many steps ahead of you.
I consider teaching kids about heaven & hell a form of child abuse. Kids are being taught that they may go to a place of fire and pain. That is just so sick, it infuriates me and fills me with disgust and utter contempt.
I am open about fact that I was molested by a priest years ago. However, this has no bearing on my scientific and philosophical viewpoints on the matter.
Religion comes from a deep psychological need humans have to feel important, immortal and serve as an answer to everything unknown. The premise that everything must have a purpose....
I do think the religion can be beneficial to some people individually (like positive thinking, meditation and owning pets) . Overall however, religion has been bastardized to make money, circumvent laws and increase world wide tension.
I believe that the bible was collected over time and written by mere mortal men during the Roman Empire. It is a collection of writings that describe the sociological and political viewpoints at the time.
While I dont believe in god/jeus, I leave open the teeniest , tiniest possibility that the universe and life was created by some force that we don't yet understand, I am certain that this force is not a god or jesus watching our every move and getting ready to punish or reward us according to some mysterious, unseens and secretive set of rules.
The changing viewpoints of man are clearly demonstrated in just the fact that there is an Old Testament and a New Testament. The original authors made god out to be too angry, vengeful and controlling as he flooded the world, blew up cities and struck people down. As society's viewpoints changed, the New Testament allowed for a more loving and nurturing god. More people were sold on this idea.
Here is a scripture that is archaic, barbaric and proves my point :
"When you go to war against your enemies and the Lord your God delivers them into your hands and you take captives, if you notice among the captives a beautiful woman and are attracted to her, you may take her as your wife. Bring her into your home and have her shave her head, trim her nails and put aside the clothes she was wearing when captured. After she has lived in your house and mourned her father and mother for a full month, then you may go to her and be her husband and she shall be your wife. If you are not pleased with her, let her go wherever she wishes. You must not sell her or treat her as a slave, since you have dishonored her."
Deuteronomy 21:10-14
In the end, I feel that myself and everyone should lead a moral and loving life. Be good to others because it is the right thing to do. Not because some book tells you to.

I know what religion did to me as a kid and I consider it inhumane to preach religion to a youngster now. I talked to my kids about right and wrong, good and bad people ... not this ominous threat of being departed from loved ones and burning in fire.
Have we really left the dark ages ?

@JWAA - yes he's a very inteligent guy, with extremely well thought out arguments. I have got to say what a great find on you tube. Its hilarious the arguments against his views, by what seems to be fascist like christians that think we shoudl all beleive in god, and nothing else! We need more guys like this around! @StephenDeMille, they don't act like that in every church ? Before you recommend the Bible, you should watch my other videos "Fooled by Religion" parts 1,2,3. The Bible and the story of Jesus is actually plagiarized from the Egyptians.

My friend, this video is not even remotely the TRUE Christianity. Are only examples of sick people and sects. Learn from the true and sincere Christians, the Bible, the Church before making critical to children's unhealthy à la Dawkins.
