The reason why most people reject the Truth: Knowledge can sometimes be extremely frightening, especially that knowledge which brings our sense of security into jeopardy. The majority of people simply do not have the courage to fight a battle which they know is going to put their most treasured ideas and pet beliefs to the test. When challenged in this way most people will rather turn tail and flee than face the possibility that they may have to give up ideas which they have always held to be at the base of everything that
is important to them. This fear of loss can be so overpowering that if a man is cornered into having to face such a battle he may even resort to suicide, rather than surrender.
It is always a lot easier to dream and
talk about having power than actively to pursue it. Yet, if we are to have power we must act.

But to become confused over which parts of the history seem to make sense and which parts appear to be unacceptable would be to become obsessed with the type of question which, when answered, only throws up more questions. Posing this type of unanswerable question is clearly an unprofitable and foolish pursuit.
