About Me:

I am an old fellow who now lives in rural South Dakota in what is referred to as The River Hills on the Great Plains of North America ! I am an avid organic gardener, both vegetables and flowers. Basically anything that grows from a seed. I grew up in Maine where growing things with manure was the norm. Everyone was an organic gardener. I have refined the process a little over the years, but not much. Growing plants has always been a passion for me. I have several garden plots along with some raised beds which produce enough food to sustain a small family for months until it all starts over again. I don't eat much beef but my friend always shoots a couple of deer every year ((I don't kill things) and we have an abundance of wild turkeys in S.D. so along with the chickens that I raise and the eggs they produce we really don't have to spend much money on food. Mostly just staples like flour, sugar rice and things like that. I love to cook and another passion of mine is baking bread, so I have that covered. I have a lot more that I could add but will cover a lot of that in my introductory video.

It is good to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought. ~James Douglas, Down Shoe Lane

I used to visit and revisit it a dozen times a day, and stand in deep contemplation over my vegetable progeny with a love that nobody could share or conceive of who had never taken part in the process of creation. It was one of the most bewitching sights in the world to observe a hill of beans thrusting aside the soil, or a rose of early peas just peeping forth sufficiently to trace a line of delicate green. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne, Mosses from and Old Manse

When one of my plants dies, I die a little inside, too. ~Linda Solegato

Gardening is about enjoying the smell of things growing in the soil, getting dirty without feeling guilty, and generally taking the time to soak up a little peace and serenity. ~Lindley Karstens, noproblemgarden.com

I know that if odour were visible, as colour is,
I'd see the summer garden in rainbow clouds.
~Robert Bridges, "Testament of Beauty"

Unemployment is capitalism's way of getting you to plant a garden. ~Orson Scott Card

You can bury a lot of troubles digging in the dirt. ~Author Unknown

Gardens... should be like lovely, well-shaped girls: all curves, secret corners, unexpected deviations, seductive surprises and then still more curves. ~H.E. Bates, A Love of Flowers

Earth is here so kind, that just tickle her with a hoe and she laughs with a harvest. ~Douglas William Jerrold, about Australia, A Land of Plenty

The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.
~Dorothy Frances Gurney, "Garden Thoughts"

If you've never experienced the joy of accomplishing more than you can imagine, plant a garden. ~Robert Brault

"Those who labour in the earth are the chosen people of God." -- Thomas Jefferson

"I'm not really a career person. I'm a gardener, basically."-- George Harrison

"She (or he!) who plants a seed beneath the sod and waits to see a plant, believes in God."

"A garden is never so good as it will be next year."-- Thomas Cooper

"There are no gardening mistakes, only experiments." -- Janet Kilburn Phillips

"I garden, therefore I am."

"A weed is only a flower growing in the wrong place." author unknown

"Don't grumble that roses have thorns, be thankful that thorns have roses."

"I have never had so many good ideas day after day as when I worked in the garden." --John Erskine

"I have never had so many good ideas day after day as when I worked in the garden." --John Erskine

We come from the earth, we return to the earth, and in between we garden."

"So many seeds -- so little time."

"Where but in a garden do summer hours pass so quickly?"

Thanks for the moody blues Y.in my youth . into macrobiotic foods & biolological thing ..we made our own museli bars .. had a stall at local music concerts in Melbourne OZ..My home city .
I have had biological gardens ..sharing the produce with all that worked in the garden ..all biologicaly planted & sustained ..it does work ...and well look at biological side ..IF A BUGG WO"'t EAT IT ?..is it good to eat ?..so that is why the consumer in the stores thinks if it looks perfect ..it is better than one apple , ( for example ) with a blemmish on it ..whatever the vegies or fruit !...give me an apple with a worm in it ..then I know it is good to eat ...conclusion ...IF A WORM WON'T EAT IT ..??? HA HA ..WHY NOT ???...CHEMMICALS !!!
love & peace ..be well !! lots of happiness in your garden !!!..teach others to do same !!! huggs ..gus

Hello Michael,
thanks for the compliments! What a coincindence! It is cool that you have lived here in Brazil. I've never been to Belem, but I heard well.
Sorry for the late response, I've been busy. I'm still learning how to use my time, or how not to use it.

Thanks and all best to you and yours too!
