Performance Direct Insurance happily supported the Silverstone Classic Car Show - Rocking and Racing, up at Silverstone Circuit on 22nd - 24th July. The Performance Direct stand featured a beautiful Volkswagen Karmann Ghia and an original Fiat 500 supplied by The Classic Car Club - London. As stunning as the cars were the two Performance Direct Promo Girls, Hayley Sams and Michelle Westby who, as always, created quite a stir at the show.
The event itself was one where World Records fell one after the other, firstly with 1104 race entries and over 8000 classic cars being displayed the Silverstone Classic is claiming to be the biggest race meeting ever staged in motor racing history. Over 120 car clubs turned up to support the event and to share their motoring pride and joy with like-minded motoring fans. To celebrate the 50th birthday of the Jaguar E-type Silverstone proudly provided the setting for the World Record for the 'largest parade of Jaguar cars' with 767 Jaguar E-types taking place in the special parade lap of the famous and historic Grand Prix circuit. There were over 1,000 E-types at the event and this included some rather special examples including the oldest E-type in existence, the prototype famed for it's number plate of 9600 HP.
There were too many classic cars to mention here, from every Ferrari you can imagine, and including such famed car marque's as Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini, Morgan, Jaguar, Porsche, Arbath, Fiat, Ford, Mini, American Classics - everyone was there. You would have been hard pushed to not find something that you liked.

Trax Car Show 2011 - what can you say? You can say that it rained. The persistant rain however did not put off the drift car drivers from attempting their drifting display on a Silverstone circuit that was more akin to an ice rink than a racing circuit. With cars spinning out of control and flying off into the gravel trap, it took a while for the drivers to adjust to the slippery conditions and find their drift lines. We at Performance Direct can only take our hats off to the drivers for not quitting but gritting their teeth and showing us all that within each drift driver must beat a heart of steel.

The World Record for Donut's in a car (not the sweet sticky kind but the tyre burning, 360 degree spin, hard driving, car control, kind) stood at 161 turns. That was until Jamie Morrow smashed it at Trax 2011, Silverstone, in his Westfield with a final count of 283 non stop turns. Taking over fifteen minutes of donuting the car Jamie Morrow not only became the dizziest person in the world but also a World Record Holder. Performance Direct we would like to say Well Done Jamie!!
