I was speaking to my Dad the other week about how I was a big fan of your videos and how I've learnt a fair bit from you. Anyway, he pops up with the fact that he knows you from your work with Kent Police. Small world I think.

Check with a car-stereo installer, ask for the "black box" they use to get rid of similar whine on radio/stereo installs.
Can't remember what it's called, but IIRC it's caused by a bad grounding in the ignition system being picked up by the antenna (or in this case, the recorder).
Another option could be shielded spark-plug wires - they cut the EMF/RFI leakage from the ignition wires.
