ECLAC Executive Secretary, Alicia Bárcena, explains in this video the main proposal the organization lays out to Latin American and Caribbean countries on its document "Compacts for Equality: Towards a Sustainable Future", released during its Fifty-fifth session, May 5-9 in Lima.

In this position paper, ECLAC suggests that the region's countries build social compacts with a medium- and long-term vision based on various axes for transformation in several spheres, such as fiscal policy, natural resources, environment, work and social protection, among others.

This message is part of a trilogy focused on equality started in 2010, when ECLAC said that it was time for equality in the region, and that growth was essential for equality, and equality essential for growth. In 2012, this organization insisted on the need for structural change to enable countries to diversify their economies by implementing active industrial policies.

Now ECLAC recommends the countries the joint construction of compacts for equality for a sustainable future for Latin America and the Caribbean.
