The Spark
by Nathan Forst

You told me that I was yours.
I was.
For a time.
And then I was mine again.
Just mine.
I'm afraid of being alone, you see.
I am afraid of being forgotten,
Of being without the other.
There is true Beauty in seeing the Universe
Through shared experience,
Through another's eyes.

It's been a while.
I've gotten used to my own voice,
My own internal conflicts,
My own dialogue.
I am my own.
I am me.
You are you.
We are separated by space and time.
I miss the way you looked at things.
I miss the way I perceived you looking at things.
I miss how I was perceived by your perceptions.

I don't want to die alone.
At least not without purpose, rhyme, and reason.
A part of me will always be yours.
I am but a speck of conscious dust,
Transient, luminous, ephemeral by my very nature.

I am a romantic.
I would like to choose to see Beauty in all things.
Even in the ugliness.
I want to see Beauty in pain.
I look for it.
I look for the spark. Show less
