NASA satellite image- ' A Cosmic Eye with sound'. In one of the largest and most detailed celestial images ever made, the coil-shaped Helix Nebula was unveiled in celebration of Astronomy Day in 2003. The resulting composite picture is a seamless blend of ultra-sharp NASA Hubble Space Telescope images combined with the wide view of the Mosaic Camera on the WIYN 0.9-meter telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory near Tucson, Arizona. The image shows a fine web of filamentary "bicycle-spoke" features embedded in the colorful red and blue gas ring, which is one of the nearest planetary nebulae to Earth. Because the nebula is nearby, it is nearly one-half the diameter of the full Moon. This required that Hubble astronomers take several exposures with the Advanced Camera for Surveys to capture most of the Helix. The Hubble views were then blended with a wider photo taken by Kitt Peak's Mosaic Camera.
The portrait offers a dizzying look down what is actually a trillion-mile-long tunnel of glowing gases. The fluorescing tube is pointed nearly directly at Earth, so it looks more like a bubble than a cylinder. A forest of thousands of comet-like filaments embedded along the inner rim of the nebula points back toward the central star, which is a small but super-hot white dwarf. These tentacles formed when a hot stellar "wind" of gas plowed into colder shells of dust and gas ejected previously by the doomed star. These comet-like filaments have been known from ground-based telescopes for decades, but never before seen in so much detail. They may actually lie in a disk encircling the hot star like a collar.
Valuable Hubble observing time became available during the November 2002 Leonid meteor storm. To protect the spacecraft, including Hubble's precise mirror, controllers turned Hubble's aft end into the direction of the meteor stream for about half a day. Fortunately, the Helix Nebula was almost exactly in the opposite direction of the meteor stream, so Hubble used nine orbits to photograph the nebula while it waited out the storm. To capture the sprawling nebula, Hubble had to take nine separate snapshots. Astronomers at the Space Telescope Science Institute assembled these images into a mosaic. The mosaic was then blended with a wider photograph taken by the Mosaic Camera on the National Science Foundation's 0.9-meter telescope at Kitt Peak National Optical Astronomy Observatory. The radiant tie-die colors correspond to glowing hydrogen and nitrogen (red) and oxygen (blue).
Planetary nebulae like the Helix are sculpted late in a Sun-like star's life by a torrential gush of gases escaping from the dying star. They have nothing to do with planet formation, but got their name because they look like planetary disks in a small telescope. With higher magnification, the classic "donut-hole" in the middle of a planetary nebula can be resolved. Based on the nebula's distance of 650 light-years, its angular size corresponds to a huge ring diameter of nearly 3 light-years across. That's approximately three-quarters of the distance between our Sun and the nearest star.
The Helix Nebula is a popular target of amateur astronomers and can be seen with binoculars as a ghostly, greenish cloud in the constellation Aquarius. Larger amateur telescopes can resolve the ring-shaped nebula, but only the largest ground-based telescopes can resolve the radial streaks. After careful analysis, astronomers conclude that the nebula really isn't a bubble, but is a cylinder that happens to be pointed toward Earth. -

According to BBC radio, Libyan rebels have rolled into Tripoli and taken hold of the capital. Crowds are celebrating after a day of heavy fighting. Reportedly the rebels have captured Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's (مُعَمَّر القَذَّافِي ) son Saif al-Islam.
Despite the inevitable outcome, the government of Libya has remained defiant as the rebels advance. -

Robbin Gibb is dead *Bee Gees' Night Fever (A Tribute)
According to BBC News Radio Gibb was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2011. Robin Hugh Gibb, CBE (22 December 1949 - 20 May 2012) was a singer and songwriter. He is best known as a member of the Bee Gees, co-founded with his twin brother Maurice and older brother Barry. He had a brother, Andy Gibb, who was also a very popular singer.
"The quavering voice of Robin Gibb was one of the key ingredients in the sound and success of the Bee Gees.
Over a period of 40 years, Robin - alongside twin brother Maurice and older brother Barry - racked up a string of hit singles and albums.
From their early incarnation as pop troubadours to their dramatic reinvention as the kings of disco in the mid-1970s, they notched up more than 200 million album sales worldwide.
They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
But it was a bumpy road with inner tensions in the band causing a brief split. The Gibbs also had to deal with the pain of losing younger brother Andy at an early age and the death of Maurice at 53.
Robin Gibb was born in Douglas on the Isle of Man on 22 December 1949, just 35 minutes before Maurice. Music was an early part of his life as the boys' father Hugh was a drummer and bandleader.
The family moved to Manchester in the 1950s, before undertaking the long journey to Australia. There they settled in one of Brisbane's poorer neighbourhoods.
Robin, together with Maurice and Barry, began playing gigs under a variety of names before settling on The Bee Gees.
In 1963 their first single, The Battle of the Blue and the Grey, made the charts in Sydney and earned them an appearance on a local TV station.
They continued to play and record and in 1965 the single The Spicks and Specks gave them their first Australian number one.
Frustrated by the limited potential in Australia, the band moved back to the UK in 1966.
There they were auditioned by impresario Robert Stigwood, who got them a recording contract with Polydor" (BBC) -

Donald "Duck" Dunn (24 November 1941 - 13 May 2012) (Blues Brothers Band) was an American bass guitarist, record producer, and songwriter. Dunn was notable for his 1960s recordings with Booker T. & the M.G.'s and as a session bassist for Stax Records, which specialized in blues and gospel-infused southern soul and Memphis soul music styles. Dunn also performed on recordings with The Blues Brothers, Muddy Waters, Freddie King, Albert King, Levon Helm, Neil Young, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Guy Sebastian, Rod Stewart, Bob Dylan, Roy Buchanan and Arthur Conley. He wrote what is by convention called "wisdom" but here presented as "maxims" provides exceptional teachings. He is widely considered for writing the oldest complete book in human history.
