  • Ninja Day Play all

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Day of the Ninja logo.Day of the Ninja is a parodic holiday celebrated on December 5 of each year. It was established in 2003 by the creators of the comedy website Ninja Burger. On this day, people are encouraged to dress as ninja, engage in ninja-related activities, and spread information on ninja via the Internet.

The holiday was created in part as a response to the day marking the release of Tom Cruise's film The Last Samurai (which featured a scene where samurai battled ninja), but mostly as a retaliation for International Talk Like a Pirate Day, as fans of ninjas and fans of pirates hold a fierce and inexplicable online rivalry (see Pirates versus Ninjas). Naturally, the day is not called "International Talk Like a Ninja Day" as ninjas are more known for sneaking around than for a distinctive speech pattern—other than silence.

The holiday drew support from the popular Ask a Ninja website in 2006; a podcast on November 30 discussed an alternate explanation for the holiday's origin, set 1400 years ago.[1] The release of the Ask a Ninja DVD was timed to coincide with that year's Day of the Ninja (Dec. 5, 2006).
