This is the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition, the brand new all-in-one retro console that plays 30 of the most popular 8-bit games of all time. It's coming out November 11 for $59.99 and includes games like Super Mario Bros. 3, Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Pac-Man and even StarTropics. It's an impressive list that made me wonder: What is the best reviewed game on the NES Classic?
To find the answer, I decided to turn to my Classic Magazine Review Archive, a comprehensive list of old school game reviews found in dozens of magazines from the United States, Britain and all around the world. It's an archive with tens of thousands of reviews from 1986 to 1996. I decided to average the reviews and score each game packaged with the NES Classic, and today we're going to countdown the entire list from worst to best.
Includes: Balloon Fight, Bubble Bobble, Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Double Dragon II: The Revenge, Dr. Mario, Excitebike, Final Fantasy, Galaga, Ghosts' N Ghoblins, Gradius, Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Kirby's Adventure, Mario Bros., Mega Man 2, Metroid, Ninja Gaiden, Pac-Man, Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream, StarTropics, SUPER C, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Tecmo Bowl, The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
