I have an 8-core mac pro. If you're on a laptop, make sure you upgrade your RAM all the way - it'll help your computer use the processor more efficiently. If you have 8GB of RAM, you should be fine unless you're running 100 tracks. And bus your effects instead of putting them on the channel strip when possible.
