The Mavericks Invitational is an event like no other, from the dangers of the break to the contest logistics, the Big Wave World Tour has catered the Northern California competition for its unique athletes. Every year, surfing competitors from the previous year's event are given the power to choose additional invitees to join the lineup. In order to gain respect and a voice at Mavs, you have to do your time charging Mavericks' steep drops and heavy walls. In addition to the accomplished locals, athletes from around the world have dedicated their time to Half Moon Bay's infamous break, hoping for an invitation - a chance at glory amongst the best big wave riders, but mostly to prove it to themselves.
