About Me:

I grew up learning classical piano since I was 5 years old and continued my training for 13 years. My teachers would tell my mom about how quickly I learned and how I would always want to learn more. They said I had that natural talent and told me I had perfect pitch, a trait one in a million people were born with. I competed at competitions and performed at recitals, and I mastered my theory at a young age achieving the Advanced Level for Certificate of Merit piano theory with Branch Honors recognition and Convention program recognition. I kept wanting to learn more with other instruments. I picked up the violin at age 10 and played classical violin for 8 years. Through violin I performed at recitals, played in an orchestra for several years, and also achieved CM Advanced Level violin theory. I also completed AP Music Theory with a 5. I took flute lessons for two years but with all the activities I was doing including school and chess, I decided to stop. Maybe I could have gone on to become a concert pianist or violinist. My teachers always told my parents that if I practiced regularly I could have become a top musician. However, I felt I started losing interest in classical music and started thinking of practice as more of a chore. Sometimes I feel bad as if I were wasting talent, but I guess I can't help it if my interests lay elsewhere.

We had a guitar laying around, and years after, I decided to teach myself how to play. Then I wanted more and bought myself an electric guitar and a ukulele. I never really took the time to learn more than several chords. After learning chords, I would just play and sing whatever songs I liked by ear. What I know for guitar and ukulele is quite basic, but it does the job. I was blessed with ears that let me figure out the notes of songs easily.

I loved singing, but I never thought I sounded any good. One day at Chinese School my teacher told me to make the graduation speech. But since I hated public speaking and felt I sucked at Chinese, I decided why not do something different and sing a song? So I took the easier way out and performed with guitar and vocals with two other friends. I was surprised at the positive response I got. And I took another chance and performed at one of our school's events. Ever since those two performances, I started gaining more confidence in my singing and started posting videos on YouTube.

I am currently double majoring in Psychology and Music in UC Berkeley. I was able to pass out of musicianship classes through my musical ear and theory knowledge. However, even without these classes I found that my music classes were very challenging and have taught me much about musical analysis, composition, history, and etc. To go past covering songs, I wanted to start writing my own music. These days I have been writing music and working with producers to get these songs recorded. Eventually, I hope to get the time and resources to learn and obtain the software for production and sound engineering. I find that when I create my own songs, I can hear the entire production in my head. Sometimes when I try to sleep at night, tunes would start flowing, and I would have to turn on the light to write the notes on my phone or on a piece of paper. Or I would randomly be walking and would suddenly think of something and have to type it out as a "note" on my phone. It constantly frustrates me that I don't know the software nor have the tools to create the productions myself. But with my ears, knowledge, and experience, I hope that eventually I will be able to create every element of my music from scratch on my own.

Am I searching for fame? Honestly, my goal is merely to write and record a lot of music that people will enjoy. I feel most rewarded when I like my own creations and when I find others like my creations as well. That's all I really wish for. I hope to always keep artistic integrity, and I hope to make music that people can smile to, cry to, dance to, move to, and relate to. A variety of music for every mood. And eventually, I hope to make music that can both touch and change lives.
