https://support.google.com/...What is the Purpose of sudden Content ID Claims?
Recently Lawsuits have broken out between Third Party Content Owners, YouTube, & YouTube Networks. Content Owners were seeking damages for Cover Songs, Videos, Trailers, and Music being re-uploaded by users and enabling monetization on the clips via Network. YouTube Stepped in and had to find a way to regulate the amount of material being uploaded by Network Partners. They Introduced Affiliated & Managed Partners for this very reason.
Why Are all of the Content ID Claims suddenly happening?
Earlier in 2013 Google Updated the Content ID Scanning system and enabled these changes this week. This update allows precise tracking of third party content, in user videos.
When Do The "Managed" & "Affiliate" Channels update take place?
The Managed & Affiliate Channels in a YouTube Network start taking place as of January 2014.
What is a Managed YouTube Channel?
If Your channel is part of a YouTube Network then it falls into two categories "Managed" & "Affiliated". Managed means You will have access to instant Monetization on YouTube. In other words your channel will remain pretty much uneffected to these new changes. The Network Though is responsible for all copyright issues, so your content will be constantly monitored.
What is an Affiliated YouTube Channel?
If You are part of a YouTube Network and your Channel isn't managed then your channel is known as an "Affiliate". Monetization for your channel will now take anywhere from 2 hours - 7 Days and will be "Under Review". Your Network is up to decide for this and its policies they set into place. Copyright issues are the channel owners responsibility now not the networks. Content ID Claims Can be placed freely on Affiliate Channels to protect third party content owners.
