REVEREND FRANCE POSTELL
"His Lord said unto him,
Well done, thou good and faithful servant ...
Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."
-Matthew 25:21
Reverend France Postell, age 97, was taken to his heavenly home Sunday morning, January 18, 2015. He was born October 23, 1917, in Cherokee County and lived there most of his life.
Rev. Postell was a caring, dedicated Baptist minister, ordained in May of 1949, and pastored for 65 years. He served as pastor of churches in Cherokee County and surrounding counties, and he also mentored generations of pastors. He fulfilled his passion for evangelism through the many revivals he conducted in several states, some as far as Ohio.
France also farmed, and owned and operated a logging company and a dozer company. He also enjoyed gardening.
France was a member of the Red Marble Baptist Church.
He was well known for having compassion for others and for being with people in their times of need. To his grandchildren, Big Pa was always a great source of support, friendship, and Christian advice. Time spent with him and their grandmother, Isma ‘Nene’, will always be a unique treasure, precious memories held in their hearts forever. He will be remembered by all of his family as a loving, caring dad and PawPaw.
Rev. Postell was the son of the late James ‘Jim’ Washington and Hassie Totherow Postell. He is preceded in death by his wife, Isma, who was a faithful and encouraging helpmate in his ministry. His brothers, Vincent, Arlin, Alec, and Ralph Postell; sisters, Sally Trantham and Lassie Derreberry; son-in-law, Harold Mason; and grandson, Lynn Mason also preceded him in death.
Surviving are five daughters, Bobbie Mason, Ginger McClure and husband, Dr. Mac McClure, Shelby Younce and husband, Nelson Younce, Sandy Moore and husband, Harry Moore, and Jackie Douthit; and three sons, Johnny Postell and wife, Joan Postell, Doug Postell and wife, Carolyn Postell, and Butch Postell and wife, Judy Postell. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family said their earthly goodbyes at the Red Marble Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 21, 2015; visiting hours were from 4:00 to 6:45 with the funeral at 7:00 PM. Reverends Donald Colvard and Mickey Stewart, along with other pastor friends, conducted the service and shared memories.
In lieu of flowers, honor France’s memory with “living what he preached and lived” and “By loving the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22.
The family is grateful to the many friends who have expressed their love and appreciation by calling, praying, visiting, and bringing food. God bless all of you.
