Marking the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations University in Japan, this video animation explains how the UNU is uniquely organized as an agile and adept think tank composed of a network of highly specialized institutes distributed across the globe.
At any given time, these institutes collaborate with over 200 UN bodies and international organisations to develop policy relevant research, with a particular focus on pressing issues of global significance such as climate change or population displacement.

The UNU Conversation Series was launched in 2013 as a collection of interviews with leading thinkers from around the world who have been invited to speak at the UNU Centre in Tokyo about pressing global issues of relevance to the United Nations and the member states.
Research at the UNU is not all about desk based studies and literature reviews. Rather UNU researchers work in the field, trying to understanding complex problems and offer practical solutions, based on sound science and expert knowledge. This playlist shares some examples of the work of the UNU in the field in different parts of the world.
The UNU is a global think tank implementing policy relevant research on contemporary global issues. Through events and projects, the UNU acts as a platform for international leaders, policy-makers, scientists and world class scholars to share their knowledge and views on the big questions of today.
Launched in 2008, the Our World magazine (http://ourworld.unu.edu) presents the research outcomes of the UN University together with expert commentary in the form of short articles. The UNU also developed, at the same time, the concept of the video brief. These are short, character driven stories about people and organisations that are tackling complex social development and environmental issues in new, innovative ways.
The United Nations University produces video documentaries that illustrate how research brings about positive change on the ground. The documentaries also explore and explain complex social, economic and environmental problems as well as sharing knowledge on the solutions to these problems. These award winning documentaries are shared online, via DVD and are screened at film festivals across the globe.
