Sonic the Hedgehog (ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ Sonikku za Hejjihoggu?) is a 2006 platform video game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles. The game was produced in commemoration of the series' fifteenth anniversary. To avoid confusion with the original 1991 video game of the same name, the game is often referred to with colloquial names that reference its year of release, such as Sonic 2006.
Sonic the Hedgehog follows Sonic's quest to protect Princess Elise after she is kidnapped by his rival Dr. Eggman, while Shadow the Hedgehog faces a supernatural entity and Silver the Hedgehog tries to protect the world from a forthcoming cataclysmic event. Players control the three each in separate campaigns; however, each character's abilities set them apart and allow them to access different parts of a series of levels.
Sonic the Hedgehog was announced in 2005, and was envisioned as being an innovative reboot of the franchise. Anticipation was high, however, the game faced multiple issues during development, which resulted in rushing the product despite existing bugs. Both versions gained infamy for receiving negative reception; it was criticized for long loading times, poor camera system, gameplay glitches, complicated plot and sloppy character control. Sonic the Hedgehog was de-listed from retailers in 2010, following Sega's decision to remove all Sonic titles with sub-average Metacritic scores from sale in stores.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an action-adventure video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U video game consoles. It is the 19th release in the main The Legend of Zelda series. The story is set in Hyrule and follows amnesiac protagonist Link, who awakens from a 100-year slumber to a mysterious voice that guides him to defeat Calamity Ganon.
The title's gameplay and mechanics constitute a departure from the series' conventions, featuring an open-world environment, a detailed physics engine, high-definition visuals, voice acting, and the ability to play through the game's dungeons in any order. Announced in 2013, the game was initially planned for release as a Wii U exclusive in 2015, but was delayed twice prior to its release on 3 March 2017. Breath of the Wild was a launch title for the Switch, and was also the final Nintendo-produced game for the Wii U.
Upon release, Breath of the Wild received acclaim from critics, who deemed it to be one of the greatest video games ever released. Critics praised the game's open-ended, physics-driven gameplay that encourages player experimentation, with many calling it a landmark title in open-world game design, despite some having issues with the game's technical performance.
Portal 2 is a 2011 first-person puzzle-platform video game developed and published by Valve Corporation. It is the sequel to Portal (2007) and was released on April 19, 2011, for Microsoft Windows, OS X, Linux, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
The game retains Portal's gameplay elements, and adds new features, including tractor beams, laser redirection, bridges made of light, and paint-like 'gels' accelerating the player's speed, allowing the player-character to jump higher or place portals on any surface. These gels were created by the team from the Independent Games Festival-winning DigiPen student project Tag: The Power of Paint. In the single-player campaign, the player controls protagonist Chell, awoken from suspended animation after many years, who must navigate the now-dilapidated Aperture Science Enrichment Center during its reconstruction by the reactivated GLaDOS, a powerful supercomputer. The storyline introduces new characters, including Wheatley (Stephen Merchant) and Cave Johnson (J. K. Simmons). Ellen McLain reprised the role of GLaDOS. Jonathan Coulton and The National each produced a song for the game. Portal 2 also includes a two-player cooperative mode, in which the robotic player-characters Atlas and P-Body (both voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) are each given a portal gun and are required to work together to solve puzzles. Valve provided post-release support for the game, including additional downloadable content and a simplified map editor to allow players to create and share test chambers with others.
Super Mario Run (スーパーマリオラン Sūpā Mario Ran?) is a side-scrolling, auto-running video game developed and published by Nintendo for iOS devices. It was released first for iOS on December 15, 2016, and will be released for Android in 2017. The game represents one of Nintendo's first games developed for the mobile gaming, and one of the few instances that its main franchise, the Mario series, was playable on non-Nintendo hardware.
Super Mario Run features three principle game modes: the core game where the player controls Mario or other characters as they automatically run across the screen while timing jumps to collect coins and other awards, a Toad Rally where players compete against ghosts of other players, and a Mushroom Kingdom area for players to expand using coins and other collectibles from the other game modes. The game was produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, and was developed primarily by the same team that had developed New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS, featuring many similar gameplay concepts adapted for ease of mobile controllers. Unlike other mobile games that use a free-to-play approach, Super Mario Run was offered as a free demo with a fixed price point to unlock all of the game's remaining content.
Paper Mario: Color Splash (ペーパーマリオ カラースプラッシュ Pēpā Mario: Karā Supurasshu?) is an action-adventure video game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Wii U. A mystery is afoot on Prism Island - and only Paper Mario can solve it by restoring the island's vanishing colors with his new Paint Hammer and the powerful Battle Cards up his sleeve. These fresh layers of strategy, along with the hilarious action adventure gameplay the series is known for, make this one of the most colorful Paper Mario action-adventure games ever.
Pikmin 3 (Japanese: ピクミン3 Hepburn: Pikumin Surī?) is a real-time strategy video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U video game console. In the Pikmin 3 game, players take command of three explorers and a legion of adorable Pikmin in a fight for survival. By employing the unique abilities of these tiny Pikmin creatures, players will solve puzzles, battle dangerous predators and recover food needed to save the explorers' depleted home planet.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (Japanese: ゼルダの伝説 トワイライトプリンセス HD Hepburn: Zeruda no Densetsu: Towairaito Purinsesu HD?) is an action-adventure game in Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series for the Wii U home video game console. A high-definition remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, originally released for the GameCube and Wii in 2006, it was first released on March 4, 2016. The game was co-developed by Tantalus Media and Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development and published by Nintendo, and features enhanced graphics and Amiibo functionality.
The story focuses on series protagonist Link, who tries to prevent Hyrule from being engulfed by a corrupted parallel dimension known as the Twilight Realm. To do so, he takes the form of both a Hylian and a wolf, and is assisted by a mysterious creature named Midna. The game takes place hundreds of years after Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, in an alternate timeline from The Wind Waker.
