You know though Magic, and Mentalist (A.K.A. Psychic Entertainment, Paranomalist, Psychological Illusionist, Mental Magic, Magic of the Mind ... etc) are both very amzing to watch some people sadly do NOT know the difference between the two. You see with Magic "Tricks" you see things of a different manner and stuff that requires different technique. In Magic, though there's a lot of tricks you only have these basics that you are performing but done differently but are Productions, Vanishes, Transformation, Restoration, Penetration, Levitation, Teleportation, Transposition. That's it as far as Magic Goes. Well there's Escapes which is in Escapology for Escape Artist a off-shoot of "Magic" as is Mentalism. The Catagories in Mentalism are Telepathy (Person to person Mind Reading), Clairvoyance (The reading of Objects or knowing the Unknown), Precognition / Premonition / Second Sight / Prediction (Knowing the future), Divination (Divining something out of other things simply), Psychokinesis / Telekinesis (Being able to transform matter like making objects move, or bending keys, coins silverware), Pseudo Mind Control (Though we CAN subliminally implant messages or thoughts in your brain through Psychological means), Great Memory Feats, E.S.P. (That's just having some kind of the abilities listed), and Hypnosis (YES we use Hypnosis usually light trance for whoever we're using as a spectator or light "Mass Hypnosis" for everyone watching to make them more suggestible). READ LINK BELOW, it'll tell you exactly what Mentalism is. For Magic just type that in. If in person to me and this is why Mentalism is my favorite subcategory of Magic is when you get into someone's head or predict what they'll do .. Etc, it hits deeper on a emotional level, even more so than watching the Best Card Trick ever. Now please note, MENTALIST ARE NOT PSYCHIC NOR HAVE SPECIAL POWERS. Usually all Mentalist before the show begins will give a disclaimer even then people will STILL think he or she has "powers". Then there are other Mentalist (like me) I neither confirm nor deny, well except here a couple times, but we rather let people make up their own minds. Now there are some people who "claim to be Psychic" like John Edwards, Silvia Brown, James Van Pragh ... etc who I and other Mentalist expose as they are ripping off people left and right. They use the knowledge most Mentalist have and use it to evil whereas we Mentalist use the "power" so to speak for good and to entertain. While Magic you must have good performing or PRESENTATIONAL SKILLS it's even more so in Mentalism as the claim you are selling is greater. It also comes from NATURAL INTUITION which we all have just some more than others. The BEST definition of Mentalism I've heard is "We use the 5 known Senses to create the illusion of a 6th sense".

*MUST SEE. Here is a AWESOME Mentalist Bob Cassidy performing one of his strongest Mentalism Routines. I have a video tape of a performance and lecture. If you look to the right you'll see a video by him called "Diary Effect" I believe. Well if you search my videos and type in Prediction with Mike it's the same thing. See one good thing about being a Mentalist you need very few items with you, whereas in Magic you need lots of props, boxes...etc. It may seem that I'm upstaging Mentalism, and I'm NOT as I'm just as much a Magician at Heart and you you all to know the difference. Mentalist do NOT do "tricks" we do "Feats", "Experiments" and so on. In my Mentalism vids I have it right in the Title.
