I am NOT a Veterinarian, nor do I claim to
be one. I have a lot of videos of pets.
As with every living thing...
What may be correct in one case may not
apply to another individual.

Please consult your local Veterinarian
about any health issues that may
concern you.

In the past I volunteered at the SPCA
for almost 7 years.
Worked with Duke Hospital Volunteer
auxiliary for 4 - 5 years.

I have a lot of compassion for animals.

Even though I spend almost as much
time researching birds
as I do as my full time job
as a photography specialist.
I share my experiences to hopefully
help motivate others to handle the fear
of undertaking on rescues.

I once spent $1,600 on a stray dog
that had parvo. Unfortunately I he
was in such bad health he did not
survive.

My advice to you is make sure you
are aware of time the possible
commitment involved.
Then be willing
to follow through or find
someone that can.

Sincerely,
Catherine

Charro is doing wonderful he has decided that I am the one he wants to bond with though he is suppose to be my b/f's bird he is eating well and really coming out of his shell. His new cage arrived Monday and he has been really enjoying exploring it will need to add some tree limbs to it as I cannot find perches that are large enough. His cage is 70w so some tree trimming is in our near future. And while we are at it we are going to construct him a huge playgym. He is a bit awnry at times but we are working on that.

Hello James87crosby87

Part 1 of 4

In MY opinion it is possible to help overcome the fears and anxieties of almost every bird that exists.

The problem comes in with the humans heh. We tend to be very pushy and impatient by nature. In other words we want everything to happen yesterday.

Sadly the result is quite often at the expense of the poor living thing that we hold dear to our hearts. Most of the time it seems to be lack of not knowing the right thing to do. This is caused by the world being in such a rush today and wanting to accomplish as much as possible in the shortest period of time.

Here is my question for you....
Your bird is nervous when people approach his cage unless they have their hands behind their back? Why?... Possibly without knowing it some has maybe poked at the cage or tapped it with a clothing sleeve> (very common by visitors) you may not even seen it. It could be anything like that. or just even being loud or to fast to approach.
Ask yourself do you REALLY want everyone to handle your bird? Do they really need to witness you with him tame on your shoulder? Thats possibly not going to happen.

Last question... How long or diligent are you willing to try even though maybe one method doesn't work, and you need to try another? Most people give up due to lack of available information.

Hello James87crosby87

Part 3 of 4

OR.... do you want to have a special trusting bond with your bird that you and your little companion can share for many years to come, that both lives are enriched by? This is definitely something you can accomplish then.
If so ....... Keep watching the videos.... I have several birds I am currently working on with the same behavioral or emotional fears also. In addition keep doing searches on how to tame a bird.
PLEASE NOTE: If you read the method and it seems like if you were your bird and the method seems to harsh and cruel? It probably IS!

Remember every bird is different like every human. What will work for some will not work for others.

Part 4 of 4

Try playing quietly and gently and slowely for now with one of his own feathers by touching his toes with the longest feather you have that he lost last molting. Don't be in a hurry to touch him. Feathers uasually are the easiest thing to approach with. They wear them :-)

Good luck I hope I had offered something valuable points to consider

Again If you have any doubts about my advice please consult your local trained professional. I have never met your bird.

Catherine.

Hey..I have a blue budgie and i've had him for around about 2 years.. i was woundering if i clipped his wings would i stil be able to get him used to human contact and interaction? he is very nervus when you put your hands near or in the cage but he loves to talk to people that come near the cage aslong as their hands are behind their back. I really want to be able to have my bird out more often but not so he can just fly away from people i hant him to be able to sit on my and not be scared or have to be held.. please reply!! thank you in advance.

hi

i just recently visited your website. very nice. how many birds do u have there? i didnt see a exact number. just curious.

you all do such amazing work. im so happy that they have all found such careing, loving, and dedicated people to help them live normal, happy, lives and not have to starve,.or worry bout being mistreated.

you all take really good care of the birds and u can tell they are happy in the videos. thank you for being there and educating people.

i wish there will be a day when people do nt want an animal for a "prize" or "trophy" or whatever else they get birds for and mistreat them, when the newness wears off and they arnt fun anymore.

keep up the good work. i wish i didnt live so far away cuz i would love to help you.

Thanks so much. We can always use more rescue companions for these beautiful creatures. (My Dream) is to sometime write a book on the topic. However funding is a bit of an issue at the moment, since all I have currently goes to their care.

I am only humbled by your kind words on our work here. I am not alone in my work here at FCBS. Amanda Lambert (secretary), Brad Dirks (Manager), and all the many volunteers.... and the organizations that call us for events so we can educate and support our Avian Mission.

These people have had a great impact. We are co-dependent with these people, creating results that become more productive each and every day.

Thanks again.
