Video produced for & on behalf of Project Miller / 125 Group and Great Central Railway Nottingham.
The 125 Group Project Miller Team and GCRN are delighted to announce that today (31st May 2014) prototype power car 41001 successfully completed a loaded test run at the Great Central Railway (Nottingham), running under its own power for the first time in preservation. This is a huge achievement and we are most grateful to everyone who has supported the restoration project. History was made at 10:25am on the 31st of May 2014 when 41001′s power controller was moved from 'Off' to 'Notch 1′, brakes released and the power car moved from the yard at Ruddington into Ruddington Fields station. This is the first time 41001 has moved under it's own power for 32 years.
This video captures much of the day in order, starting from the light engine trips around the Ruddington complex, to the single return trip to Loughborough, filmed from Bridge 300 (Asher Lane) and the disused railway station of East Leake.
The return trip was hauled by Ruddington resident 56097.
The Class 56 + the 2 MK2's was 189 Tons, which worked out at approximately 6 coaches worth of weight.
