    'Lily Enrapture' (original, sorry lolz)

    Originally I thought this as a pure, love sort-of song when I first played around with it. Given the end result - I'd say it's not quite that typical of one. But then again love songs are generally unlike what they are talking about unless you live in a fantasy world. If you think of it as a struggle moreso, with ingrained a sense of urgency, battles occurring and things having to be fought - with the end result being worth it. Think of this as your battle music.

    As you can probably tell I am a fan of games, I'd like to think this would fit very nicely in any cinematic or as say a boss theme. This song was also not written originally for orchestra but for a band, so that version will come sometime too. Plan on writing whatever music I write in both orchestral + prog metal versions. Just a bit of fun, hope you enjoy it too. The video is just there so that it's not me playing the entire time, just a recording of a trainride through the Australian countryside.

    Mass Effect Love Theme on Guitar

    While I had thought of making a video of Tali and Liara naked and mud wrestling you'll have to deal with me playing the Love theme from Mass Effect 1 instead.

    I love Bioware games and this was probably the easiest song I could attempt to arrange /sadface. I mean Mass Effect 1s music was amazing but theres no way I could play the Flux theme on guitar for example. Maybe looking at some Dragon Age stuff next. Who knows.

    I know it says 'guitar' in the title but it's arranged for two guitars. It would be fairly easy to arrange it for one guitar and play it acoustic but I just like spaced-out electric sound.

    Beethoven 9th SyMpHoNy - 2nd movement, on guitar

    So, I noted a couple of months ago that the society have generally remembered only a few classics of Beethoven. Most of them are Fur Elise, Moonlight Sonata and the 4th movement. I decided to transpose the 2nd movement, because of its genius, spiritual and romantic reflection of the great god. It took me like 3 days to transpose, but I took the last 2 or 3 months to learn it and start to improvise on it. It's only the first part, thought the other part is nearly the same as the first. I've did like five videos and i mix them together to get this. It just happenned that it sounds really good. I was tuned down in D a couple of weeks ago and when i took the dictation, so i had to transpose it, but that was not a hard job. check out our myspace:

    This video has had a DMCA notice filed against it by someone claiming to be Viacom. I have been in contact with Viacom in an attempt to resolve this matter.

    So the US-based Muslim website Revolutionmuslim.com posted a barely concealed veiled threat against the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone for depicting the Prophet Muhammad in a bear costume.

    Well kudos to the South Park creators for showing the backbone to defiantly stand against those who hope, through threats of violence, to have a chilling effect on free speech.

    I see no reason to mince words here. Theo van Gogh was killed for nothing other than making a film critical of Islam. He was shot, stabbed and beheaded in the capital of a First World country. Over a hundred were killed world wide in riots etc over the Danish cartoons.
    -It is unacceptable, unthinkable, that we should stand by and allow such folk to import the core of their religion, -the core which has kept their civilization in the dark ages for the last 800 years into our enlightened civilization. Not while I have my strength. I have seen the fruits of the Enlightenment, and I have seen the stagnation of the Middle East.
    We cannot allow them to do this as firstly they do not have the maturity to wield the power of the Age of Reason, and secondly who in their right might would wish to re-embrace the Dark Ages.

    Sharia Law is an irrelevance in the first world, and if you think that if someone draws a picture of your 'Prophet' that this means you have the right to kill them, then you have no place in the First World.

    Tool - Lateralus - Koto Ensemble Version

    I arranged Tool's 'Lateralus' for 8-piece koto ensemble. Here's the first performance, by Soemon in Tokyo, 11/27/09. Check out the rehearsal version video as well. Kazue Sawai was in the audience at this performance.

    I'd like to dedicate this one to my oldest friend Eric, who first introduced me to 'Lateralus.'

    The first 6 steps and the 15th step (6=1+5) of the Fibonacci sequence for the numbers 0 and 1 feature prominently in the structure of this piece:

    (0-1) -1-2-3-5-8-13-21-34-55-89-144-233-377-610-987

    This is reflected, for example, in the rhythm of the second section, 9/8-8/8-7/8, 987 being the 15th step of the sequence, as well as in the structure of the 3rd section. While the underlying rhythm of this section is 5/8 (the 6th step of the sequence is 5+8=13), the lead melody progresses back and forth through a series of phrases of length 0 to 13, again the first 6 steps of the sequence plus the root numbers, separated by pauses of length 1 to 5, the 1st 4 steps of the sequence. Together the melody phrases and rests form the image of 2 interlocking spirals. The lyrics of the song at this point also reflect the mathematical structure, the first words being 'black then white,' i.e. 0 and 1. The lyrics later in the song make use of extensive spiral imagery.

    In my arrangement I tried to incorporate this element of the original composition as much as possible. There are 8 instruments in the group, 6 koto and 2 bass koto. The 6th step in the sequence is 13, which is the number of strings on a koto. The 2 bass kotos together have 34 strings, 34 being the 8th step of the sequence. In the first 9/8-8/8-7/8 section the 8 players are subdivided into 2 groups, one of 5 and one of 3. The groups play the 9/8/7 figure 3 times, with a variation in the 3rd iteration subdividing it into 3=2+1. The 2nd time through the 9-8-7 figure the groups themselves subdivide into smaller groups of 3+2 and 2+1 for 2 iterations before subdividing again in the 3rd iteration (3=2+1 again).

    There is so much more, but, as the lyrics in the 4th section say, "Over-thinking, over-analyzing separates the body from the mind." It rocks, and that's all that really matters.

    Is Islam a hate crime?

    This work is in defense of the video by zomgitscriss where all she basically said was 'if the big bang and evolution are in the Koran, as many Muslims state, then why weren't these discoveries made by Muslims 1400 years ago!'

    This video got taken down for 'community guideline violations' within a few hours of her putting it up, presumably by criticism-hypochondriac-Muslims who interpret any dissenting voice as 'hate-speech'.

    DPRjones then mirrored this video and also had the video removed for 'community guidelines violations' within hours.

    Well if this is the way youtube is going to run the forum, then it has little further value as a forum for discussion. The line is drawn.

    Youtube makes it's call to either stand by values of free speech that make it an asset to the western world, or it yields to the 'anything bad said about Islam is a hate-crime' lobby.

    In either event, I did my part.
