Rayman Legends is a platform game in development by Ubisoft Montpellier to be published by Ubisoft. It is the fifth main title in the Rayman series and the direct sequel to 2011's Rayman Origins. It was revealed in a leaked trailer that appeared on the internet on April 27, 2012. It was originally a Wii U exclusive, but now it will be released for not only Wii U, but also PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows, and PlayStation Vita on August 30, 2013 in Europe and on September 3, 2013.
Rayman, Globox, and the Teensies are off wandering through an enchanted forest when they discover a mysterious tent filled with a series of captivating paintings. As they look more closely, they notice each painting seems to tell the story of a mythical world. While focusing on a painting that shows a medieval land, they are suddenly sucked into the painting, entering the world, and the adventure begins. The gang must run, jump and fight their way through each world to save the day and discover the secrets of every legendary painting.
Rayman Legends is a slight iteration on Rayman Origins and uses the same set of gameplay features. Up to four players can navigate the sidescrolling world simultaneously, collecting lums, attacking enemies, and platforming their way through the environment. Like Rayman Origins, much of the game's music is synced to the game's action, and the latest game brings in even more musical set pieces.
The newest and most unique feature of Rayman Legends is its use of the Wii U tablet. Any secondary player can use the tablet to control Murfy, who zips across the screen to help Rayman and his allies. With the use of the tablet, the total amount of simultaneous players increases to five.
As Murfy, players can slice ropes, raise or lower playforms, move objects, such as cages, around the level, rotate platforms using the tablet's motion controls, turn yellow Lums pink, and activate switches on the map. Players solely execute these actions using the Wii U tablet's touch screen interface. The television screen view is duplicated on the touchscreen in addition to occasionally hidden information, such as the location of activated buttons.
However, on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, the game plays more similarly to Origins, and Murphy can only be summoned when required. At the end of each world, there is a music level based on popular songs. These are Castle rock - Black Betty, Orchestral chaos - an original song for the game, mariachi madness - eye of the tiger, gloo gloo - woo hoo, dragon slayer - antisocial, and grannies world tour, which is also an original song. the latter is featured on a bonus world, called Living dead party. This world also has an eight bit remix of all of the music levels. This world is unlocked after collecting 400 teensies.
