Important facts about blood types! A mom's body will attack a fetus in the womb if they have opposite blood types for positive and negative or Rh factor.. Blood typing is also crucial for blood donation and transfusions with abo blood types so the body doesn't attack itself.
Blood typing is a must for blood transfusion and it’s also a must for pregnant woman because with the wrong pairing in the womb and her body will attack the fetus thinking it’s a foreign invader. More on that in 20 seconds.
Each blood type has its own unique characteristics. They evolved as an adaption to disease. For example Type O blood evolved partially due to the malaria virus. That virus doesn’t stick as well to Type O blood cells so those people don’t get as sick.
Fetal blood types are routinely taken not for the letter component but for the positive negative part of the formula, or the Rh factor.
It’s a special protein that 85% of the population has in their blood. If you have it you’re O+, B+, and so on. If a mother and fetus have opposite Rh factors her body will view the babies’ blood as an invader and will attack the fetus so doctor’s have to prescribe special prenatal medication.
And if a person is transfused with the wrong blood type their body will also attack itself leading to anything from fevers to jaundice & kidney damage.
