The Macedonian royal house was called "Argeads" or "Temenidae". According to the tradition, the founder of the royal house Perdiccas - even if the name of the founder differs in reference with the ancient source used - along with his brothers, the "Temenidae" came to the place called Macedonia from the Greek city of Argos (southern Greece). These Temenidae were descendants of Heracles, through Temenus, thus they were called also 'Heracleids'.
Since the time of Alexander I, Macedonian kings participated in Olympic games, which as we all know only Greeks could take part. The Argive origin of the Macedonian royal house was well-attested and widely believed both from Macedonians, as well as the rest of Greeks.

In the acts of the Apostles (chapter 16, verses 11-15 & 17 verses 1-15, Pauls journey to Macedonia) there is a description of Macedonia and we can see the names of its cities Philippoi, Thessaloniki (not Solun), Neapolis, Amphipolis, Appolonia, Beroia all GREEK names. Apostle Paul and Silas also mention the ethnicities that found in Macedonia, Jews, Romans, Greeks. There is no mention of a Macedonian ethnicity separate from the Greek nation, Macedonians are identified as Greeks.

"While I, Daniel, was watching the vision and seeked for comprehension, someone with the appearance of a man stood in front of me. Then I heard a human voice from the Oulai river saying Gabriel make him understand the vision. Gabriel came next to me. I was scared and I fell down facing the soil. The Strabo (Geography 7) on the nationality of the Macedonians, states clearly that Macedonians are Greeks...
«Εστίν με ουν Ελλάς και η Μακεδονία, νυνί μέντοι τη φύσει των τόπων ακολουθούντες και τω σχήματι χωρίς έγνωμεν από της άλλης Ελλάδος τάξαι και συνάψαι προς όμορον αυτής Θράκης» (Στράβων Γεωγραφικά, 7).
