When I used it, the paddle needed to "click" into place onto the shaft. It's designed to extend slightly when you pull it out of the ice cream, so that you can lift the lid off and the paddle will stay in the ice cream. It didn't need a lot of force though. Maybe you should give Kenwood a call, if you're still having some difficulty with it.

Lol you're right, I'll have to think of something new to say next time!
I'd really like to try the smaller version one out, but they don't sell it over here in the UK unfortunately.

Cuisinart, overall. My favourite is the Cuisinart ICE40, as it's the most versatile (you can make different flavours simultaneously and also smaller amounts). I also found it made the thickest ice cream, and was the quickest. The ICE30 model was very good too though.
Out of the cheaper ones, I'd say the Kenwood. It has it's downsides as it's quite a big, chunky bowl, but it just feels really solid and sturdy. Definitely good quality for the price.

The recipe relies on having a high butter milk content in order to freeze properly, and I'm not sure what effect melted chocolate might have on the consistency (and it might also stop it from freezing properly).
If you want to give it a try, I'd say that using a chocolate milkshake syrup to flavor it would have the highest chance of being successful. Not proper chocolate, but I think you'd need an ice cream maker to use real melted chocolate instead.

Hi there,
Yes, it is definitely possible to make ice cream without eggs (not this recipe though). If you Google "ice cream recipe no eggs" there are quite a lot to try.
However, the egg does have a big effect on the consistency. I've never made ice cream without it, but I think it would probably have a less velvety and smooth texture.
Well there's only one way to find out! Would be great to hear how you get on with it, and what you think of the ice cream you make.

Thanks for your comments. You're entitled to your opinion, of course. I can only comment on my own experience with it.
As can be seen in the video, it worked very well for me and made very thick and creamy ice cream. Since I made this video I've used it to make 4 more batches of ice cream, all of which turned out just as thick and nice. I've so far experienced no problem with it all.
Thanks,
Pete
