Electro house is a hard form of house music. Electro house's origin is obscure, with varying influence attributed to 1980s-electro, electroclash, pop, synthpop, and tech house. Electro house found mainstream popularity around 2005, and the term has been used to describe the music of many Top 100 DJs, such as Deadmau5, Porter Robinson, Hardwell, Madeon, Kaskade, and Wolfgang Gartner.

Electro house sometimes contains elements of tech house such as prominent basslines, short and high-pitched riffs, and minimal to medium amounts of percussion. Unlike tech house, however, it can include abrasive, electro-influenced synths and vocal or instrumental samples. The tempo is usually around 128 to 130 BPM. Early house music was generally dance-based music characterized by repetitive 4/4 beats, rhythms mainly provided by drum machines, off-beat hi-hat cymbals, and synthesized basslines. While house displayed several characteristics similar to disco music, it was more electronic and minimalistic, and the repetitive rhythm of house was more important than the song itself. House music today, while keeping several of these core elements, notably the prominent kick drum on every beat, varies a lot in style and influence, ranging from the soulful and atmospheric deep house to the more minimalistic microhouse. House music has also fused with several other genres creating fusion subgenres, such as euro house, tech house, and electro house.

Many music genres that made use of electronic instruments developed into contemporary styles mainly due to the MIDI protocol, which enabled computers, synthesizers, sound cards, samplers, and drum machines to interact with each other and achieve the full synchronization of sounds. Electronic dance music is typically composed using computers and synthesizers, and rarely has any physical instruments. Instead, this is replaced by digital or electronic sounds, with a 4/4 beat. Many producers of this kind of music however, such as Darren Tate and MJ Cole, were trained in classical music before they moved into the electronic medium.

Electro House also known as EDM, dance music, club music, or simply dance is a dj set of percussive electronic music genres produced primarily for environments centered in dance-based entertainment, such as nightclub settings. The music is largely created for use by disc jockeys and is produced with the intention of it being heard in the context of a continuous DJ set wherein the DJ progresses from one record to the next via a synchronized segue or "mix". This form of music generally tends to be produced at a fast tempo, on average ranging from around 125-140Bpm (Beats Per Minute) for the most typical styles, and even around 160 for faster ones.
