Big thanks to Cherax Destructor for laying down those beautiful trombone tracks you hear during the last part! Give him some love! https://www.youtube.com/use...

-----------------------------------------

This song was based off the fic The Stranger and Her Friend, by TheUrbanMoose: http://www.fimfiction.net/s...

Partial lyric credit goes to TheUrbanMoose too; I did lift a line or two straight off the fic.

The song deals more with the background of the story, so if you worry about spoilers, it's probably safe to carry on reading this text and listening to the song without spoling anything too important.

Lucky Break was a Lieutenant-Commander in the Maiden's Battalion, second in command to childhood friend, the Maiden herself: Commander Daylight. There was a war going on, and Daylight had led her army successfully through so many battles, and carried herself and her words with such fervor, that she became something of a public hero and a beacon of hope for the people amidst the bleakness and the strife, until she was slain in battle. The loss of a soldier doesn't stop a war, as neither does the loss of a loved one stop life, but her loss still left a hole in the morale of the people, and in the heart of Lucky Break. He is now charged with the job of stepping in for Daylight and leading her army, and while he gets the job done, he can never replace what Daylight meant for everyone, nor can he fill the gaps she left in his life. Shortly after her passing, amid the people's mourning for her, and amid preparing to leave on another campaign, Lucky would visit Daylight's grave every so often. He would mull over things he wished he had done, things he wished he had said, and things he wished hadn't been said between them; he wasn't sure he could fulfill the things he'd promised he'd do in the case he ever found himself in this situation. He would bring her sunflowers every time he visited her; he thought it was appropriate...

-----------------------------------------

Sunlight never cared about borders and neither did you
The sun is out and it didn't wait for you
Routine does not need you

Tears shed for a hero, a prayer from souls in need
but none of this moves a single nerve in me
What good is loyalty to the dead?

Now I'm sleeping on my hooves, head up, looking down,
Fighting off the dust that threatens to collapse these arms
My heart is shrinking up without daylight shining in
Even the sunflowers still think the night's not over

Words said, words I wish I could bring myself to forget
What would possess you to ask this of me?
What good is loyalty to the dead?

Now I'm sleeping on my hooves, head up, looking down,
Fighting off the dust that threatens to collapse these arms
My heart is shrinking up without daylight shining in
Even the sunflowers still think the night's not over

When you died you gave me your hooves to stand up
but identical horseshoes don't make two horses alike
My heart is shrinking up without daylight shining in
Even the sunflowers know that the night's not over

[spoken word translation:]

In the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit
As it was in the beginning, now and forever,
for centuries of centuries, amen
Mary, mother of grace, mother of mercy
In life and in death give us shelter, great Lord
Give her, Lord, eternal rest
And shine upon her the perpetual light
Rest in peace
So be it
