From my experience It doesn't help. In the beginning you'll be playing bars and small venues. These people are used to dealing directly with the musicians, and many have actually told me that they really don't like dealing with agents and managers. I also won't talk too much about how good you are. Send them your music and let them be the judge. The opinion of a stranger doesn't matter.
