Description:

This is the new official group for the Youtube users whose account(s) were created in the year 2005 also known as the "pioneers of You Tube." The successor of F This is the new official group for the Youtube users whose account(s) were created in the year 2005 also known as the "pioneers of You Tube." The successor of First Accounts or 2005 Accounts Group (I credit user "bluesky" for starting this club. I've had this idea since late 2006 but never got around to making it along with 2006). Eloquently known as "Club 2005" or "2000 and 5 Memories." As you may know, You Tube was founded by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim (all of whose accounts are still active today). You Tube underwent beta testing in February 2005 then went fully live in November 2005. Not much is known about this period of You Tube history but you can help bring these memories alive. Share your experience from these golden days of You Tube by posting a comment and/or topic, leaving notes, and even videos. Do whatever you like! This is your group just remember to keep it "community friendly." Note: this channel is exclusive to You Tube user accounts that were created in 2005 only. Any other account will not be allowed even if you started using You Tube in 2005 but your account was terminated. Those accounts will be in a special group.

KEY MOMENTS:

-February 14 or 15, 2005: The domain name "YouTube.com" was activated
-April 2005: Some of the 1st videos were uploaded (it's been said that user jawed uploaded the 1st video but who knows what happened between February and before jawed)
-May 2005: Testing - YouTube released a beta version with about 30 videos, a large number featuring Chen's cat, P.J.
-September 2005: The site was showing more than 1,000,000 videos a day
-November 2005: Sequoia invested $3.5 million in the in venture capital (start-up); Official public launch
-December 2005: It eclipsed iFilm, a rival video site

THE GENESIS OF YOU TUBE: In the beginning there were Telnet, Mosaic, internet search, e-mail, Paypal and .mpg or .mpeg also called video format. Plus, iFilm and uTube already existed. Including, Friendster, MySpace and Napster. You could even send still pictures or vids through your cell or just browse them but there wasn't a better way to share videos over the Internet. The 3 Founding Fathers then said, "let there be video sharing." This was Day 1 after Day 0 - the ideas or brainstorm from the days of PayPal through HOTorNOT. Then, the Founding Fathers saw that it was good and aimed for innovation so they said, "let users provide the content through uploads." This was Day 2. On the 3rd day, the Fathers took a rest from all of their work. Finally, on Day 4 they said, "let's add 1 more thing." While still in beta, they said, "let's test drive the site." Thus, the ratings system was made and the 1st videos uploaded which were Chen's cat and Jawed at the zoo. Pleased, they said, "it shall be called You Tube." You Tube was born. (more)
