Супергруппа «Горностай» была создана в 2009 году лидером Мумий Тролля Ильей Лагутенко и продюсером и композитором Павло Шевчуком — однако долгое время проект осознанно держался в тени и рассказывал о себе только в социальных сетях. В мае 2011 года на YouTube появился первый клип «Горностая» — «Песня Техника» с участием Артемия Троицкого и актера Петра Федорова. В сочинении песен, записи альбома и концертном воплощении «Горностая» принимало участие множество самых разных и самых неожиданных людей — от американца Норма Блока, сотрудничавшего с Марком Ланеганом и Queens of The Stone Age, до лидера группы «Сансара» Александра Гагарина и пермского электронного дуэта Mars Needs Lovers, который в настоящий момент входит в живой состав «Горностая».
