Let’s talk about other members of the Wainwright/McGarrigle/Roche families
TeaTime: Perhaps someone could start by saying who they are and what their relationship to Loudon is?
opulent7: Let's start with the musical Wainwrights. First there's Loudon, then Loudon's sister Sloan Wainwright (and her son Sam McTavey). Loudon's children Rufus, Martha & Lucy Roche his daughter from his second marriage to Suzzy Roche (of the Roches fame with her sisters Maggie & Terre). Then there's Loudon's first wife Kate McGarrigle (part of the McGarrigle sisters duo with her sister Anna). To a lesser extent there's also Loudon's father Loudon Wainwright Jnr. who was also a part-time songwriter!

mcob1: i liked the one about the guy and the girl and the sixpack and laughing together on the steps of a brownstone. and dead skunk of course. I might have the wrong loudon here.
iamlizzz: My favorite Louden Wainwright III was one I believe was called "Old Friend". I can't find it on YouTube. I also loved "Unrequited" and "Heaven and Mud". Recently, I like "This Song Don't Have a Video".

What’s your favourite Loudon Wainwright album?
zensho1: The second one. Third was comercial and accessible, but the second is the best.
toez2001: The second one was great because he played acoustic. And They were New songs, the arrangements, the lyrics, vocals all clear and concise like he is playing in the room with you. When Loudon plays with accompaniment the songs lose a little something in the translation, so to speak. His best stuff is on his live albums because they capture how emotional and how nuts he gets when he performs live. Nothing like him In Concert.

Tell the group about your favourite Loudon Wainwright moment
zensho1: BBC Radio 1 used to have a regular live In Concert, 6pm on Saturdays. Loudon gigged on one about 1984. He started off with Final Exam, I'm Alright, Five Years Old and then a scathing 'revenge song' (which I have never heard on an album. Intense. The audience seemed shocked.
hanman1: Got this concert and Sight and sound from 78 on 2 Wav files. "This city has many emergency rooms when I get my revenge your gonna be in one soon"

Let’s talk about Loudon live in concert
TeaTime: I saw him recently at Warwick Arts Centre in UK and it was a great evening - took my husband who didn't really know his stuff and he really enjoyed it too. I've been a fan since the 80's (saw him in Leeds in 80 or 81) but sort of 'lost touch' till got these tickets to see him. Somehow he has a way of connecting with the audience and winning them over, probably because he is self-critical and sees the funny side of human nature's darkest side. Loved 'Hard time on the planet' at that concert.
