These skills include basic handling, sit-stand-pivot tranfering, re-positioning, standing, and walking. This channel is focused on Daniel's mobility, therapies, & communication; however, it does cover other ADL. More importantly, there are a lots of successful/useful trail-and-error tips that I, Daniel's mom will share with you to make life easier for other caregivers.

His remarkable health and life success contributed from the theories behind:
Where there's a will, there's a way.
Whatever you focus on becomes your reality.
The Secret of Every Success in Life is your VISION, ACTION, BELIEVE, FAITH, HOPE, DREAM, and DETERMINATION. In Daniel's case, it is also with the help of many excellent medical professionals, kind, and compassionate people along with strong will, hard works, patience, dedication, and perseverance.

His public school administrators once questioned Daniel's private physical therapist in 2002 "Do you think Daniel can ever walk?" His private PT replied "l learned from my past experience, NEVER SAY NEVER".

This channel is dedicate to help others to understand how Assistive Technology (AT) can assist nonverbal people with severe multiple intellectual and physical disabilities. It is vital that all medical professionals work together with the parents/caregivers to make it successful for the nonverbal, disabled, weak, and vulnerable person.

This channel also offered links to help people to understand Cerebral Palsy and its treatments. We do not endorse all its treatments, because Daniel has not have the opportunity to be treated with stem cells or HBOT; therefore these links are just informational; however it should carefully considered on each individual basis.

Remember, CP cannot be cured, but treatment can improve a child's capabilities.

Patients Medical's in NY State offered Cerebral Palsy Treatment of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. HBOT is approved by the FDA as well as recommended by the AMA.

****** Please note, Daniel is not selling or profiting from any equipment or therapies referenced on this channel or used in his videos, it is mainly designed to educate and help others to see there are solutions to enable and enhance the activities of daily living even for the most severely disabled person. We are still in the process of researching more options to further enhance his quality of life. *******
About Me:

Daniel's documentary Videos tells it all. Daniel has special needs; he is nonverbal with global developmental delay, spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy (CP), scoliosis, and failure to thrive (according to professionals that gave up on him). From birth to 33 months, even with intensive early childhood intervention and therapies started at 5mos, he had poor head control, infantile spasms; which also accompanied with ATNR, tongue thrust, and feeding disorder. By age 3, we changed our approach to handle him as a holistic child, and those symptoms slowly disappear and he became more flexible with all range-of-motion and functional with his own body movements. He required total care; but very cooperative and aware of his environment. He was home schooled for 3mos in 9th grade and fully home schooled after 11th grade. Now he can stand and walk upright without body brace (TLSO) as shown in his videos. He enjoys being out in the community w his family for social.
Who could ever through this severe multiply physically and mentally challenged teen can be taught with profound global developmental delay. He has taught many not to judge people by their medical labels-appearances. Who could ever through he could stay so healthy to learn new life skills even with the resistance from his public schools.
Daniel is our modern day of a complex version of Helen Killer using the modern technology to improve his quality of life and to defend his own rights. Although Daniel is not blind; however some people thought that he was, because he was not responding to visual simulations before age 3. Even though, he was not deaf, people often think he was, because he would not follow simple verbal commands. Although, he does not have the cognitive ability as Helen Killer; but that does not means he is dumb. Daniel can only do what he has control over.
He has a great desire to communicate via his gait trainer. Through the use of camcorder, his parents captured him doing some amazing skills by operating many different power wheelchairs taught by his parents in a non school environment.
He is highly functional for someone with his level of physical and intellectual developmental disabilities. He has extreme high receptive skills with excellent memories. The videos about his public school is not indented to be negative, rather, it shows the struggle Daniel (weak & vulnerable) has to face on a day-to-day basis, as his school written him off as a failure years ago. Despite everything happens beyond his controls, Daniel is happy n resilient. He turns all negatives into positives. Daniel is capable to learn from real experiences, accept setbacks and losses, keep everything in perspective, think creatively, overcome challenges, take risk, and ask for help in his own way. Daniel first develops his standing skill by using many different type of standers (prone/upright). He learned to walk before 3, in 2000 Daniel started walking in his gait trainer (GT), modified/maintained by his parents. After that, he mastered the skill to operate a power standing wheelchair without any school involvement.

He is totally relies on assistive technology, such as stander n adaptive walker. Walking/Standing has many physiological and psychological benefits. Daniel walking skill is @the beginners stage under perfects indoor environment, it is important 4him 2develop a normal natural gait pattern in proper postural alignment to exercise his lower extremities to prevent contractures and surgeries, to build muscle mess, n2 have a cardio exercise that he can do it on his own.
The video titled The Proper Fitting of his Gait Trainer was created by his mother and his sister: http://www.youtube.com/walk... explained the proper fitting & setting that made Daniel successful with his walking to enable him to explore and to be an interactive learner.
Since his walking is only limited to a perfect indoor environment w short distance; public school would have been the ideal place for Daniel to learn and explore at his cognitive level for socialization; but his public school district denied him for practicing standing, walking, or any type of gross motor movement activities that maintain his current health. Therefore, at age 17, Daniel had to be homeschooled to be safe and healthy environment for him to continue his progress.
