Welcome to UMA-TV, the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections' channel. Here is where you will find digitized versions of video and film held in the Archives, as well as informative and interesting original content pertaining to the Archives and its records.
About Me:

Archives & Special Collections is a department of the Libraries and is located in Room 330 on the third floor of the Elizabeth Dafoe Library. Since its establishment in 1978, the Archives' mission has been to acquire, catalogue and preserve university records and special research collections which further the educational aims of the University of Manitoba, and to promote and provide wide access to them. The Archives' wide-ranging collection mandate includes the acquisition of the records of the University of Manitoba, Canadian Prairie Literary Manuscripts, the Archives of the Agricultural Experience and rare books in the areas of western Canadiana, early Arctic exploration, early Native language syllabics, spiritualism, church history and philosophy, and agriculture among others.

The Santa Claus parade film shows the parade passing the corner of Portage and Maryland. The last part shows the back of the Eaton's store on Graham. Its interesting that the costumes and some of the floats seem similar to the cartoons of Charlie Thorson, maybe that's why you have the film because I know you have his archives.

The Veterans parade film shows, I think, the Decoration Day Parade which took place in Winnipeg on the Sunday in May closest to the anniversary of the Battle of Batoche. It was a big event up until the 1960's at least and maybe longer. It became an event that commemorated all the wars Winnipeggers had been involved in, including the world wars. In the early days they marched to St. John's Cathedral cemetary to put flowers on the memorial to the men who died at Bathoche. I don't know where the cenotaph in the film is.
