Founding father's view on Islam:

In 1786, Thomas Jefferson, Ambassador to France and John Adams, Ambassador to England, met with Islamist Sidi Haji Abdul Rhman Adja, over the capture of American ships by Muslim pirates from Morocco and Tripoli and the enslavement of American sailors.

Jefferson and Adams wrote a report back to Congress over their meeting with Adja. They noted:

...that it [Islam] was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman (Muslim) who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise.

Jefferson, as President of the United States, sent American Marines to war against the Muslim Barbary pirates from 1801-1805. The Marine Hymn celebrates this historic battle against Islamists.

Indeed, in a letter dated June 26, 1822 [12], Jefferson had this to say about Islam in a passage regarding Calvinism:

Verily I say these are the false shepherds foretold as to enter not by the door into the sheepfold, but to climb up some other way.
