I live in a suburb of Vancouver, BC. Over the years I have worked at a number of jobs. I was self-employed for about 12 years doing computer programming and thesis typing on the mainframe computer at the University of British Columbia. Times changed and I didn't want to so I left that behind to help a friend promote personal growth seminars. That wound down after a couple of years and I had to get a job.

I did temp work for a few months, mostly construction laboring, until I landed a clerical job at a large forest products company. Four years later they downsized their head office by 350 people and I was looking for work again. I landed a job at another forestry company and stayed there for 8 years until a merger cut me loose again. After that I took some time off to be at home with my family before I took a leap off the deep end and tried my hand at selling cars. That lasted a year until I was let go again.

Here I am, 54 years old, unemployed, with a teenaged daughter and a stay-at-home wife, who one day wants to put her talents as a home stager and feng shui consultant to work helping others. In the meantime I have turned to the Internet to create a livelihood for myself and my family. I have had my fill of commuting, layoffs and downsizing.

I've been down the personal growth path, reading dozens of books, attending numerous seminars and workshops looking for that fix that would turn my life around. I learned a lot and met a lot of wonderful people but financially I was still just getting by, sometimes feeling a little envious of others with the resources to go on the big holidays or live a more affluent lifestyle. I knew it was possible to do better.

Over the years I've seen a lot of opportunities on the Internet that promised big money for little effort. I signed up for a bunch of them but didn't do much.
