Performing simple exercises with strict form and slow repetitions. The idea is to Increase stress steadily, for instance, doing a set of standing dumbell curls with your feet firmly together places more stress on your core to keep your body upright. The same done standing on one leg places even more stress and will be difficult to perform using even a light weight.

Deadlifts I have used since I began reading about body composition and exercise science , and in my opinion are one of the best all round exercises to do, as they involve so many muscles in the body working together. Doing them with dumbells is something I prefer because the movement becomes easier to vary the angle of the lift and decline. You can choose to place more stress on different parts of the body by doing this, and you can combine the deadlift with other movements at the same time once it feels more natural.
