Yes I would defend myself too. The point however was that it was Masons and Mormons who wanted Joseph Smith dead most of all.
Other Christians did not think that highly of Joseph Smith to want him dead.
It was all of those people that Joseph Smith did wrong. All of those men whos wives Joseph Smith stole. Or the people who Joseph Smith swindled during his banking scam. There were so many people who Joseph Smith stole a LOT of money from. He died like a criminal, cuz he was.

If you do the research from Aaron to Caiphus there was only 88 total high priests. One would die and their son or near relative would take their place. But there was never more than 1 at a time legitimately. So is the order of God. There is only on High Priest, and that is Christ the the Lord Jesus forever (Hebrews 7)
