This minigame's officially called Katamari Kombat :D
I have recently learned that this minigame is notably different in the two games where it appears. One difference is that most everything picked up causes a little bit more growth in Beautiful Katamari. But to make up for that, most but not all objects require a bit less diameter to roll up in Katamari Forever.
I know the final result is a similar number to Punta's amazing world record in Katamari Forever, but my performance is not as good! I think Punta would reach over 1000m in Beautiful Katamari.
One of the most basic things about this minigame is that generally, maybe always, grabbing an object at full size is worth more diameter than grabbing all the mini-objects created by shooting it. Near the end I use this to my advantage by grabbing the Jumboman figure at full size at 3:00 and the katamari right before the King at 3:08. (In Katamari Forever I can sometimes grab the katamari at full size, but I've never managed to grab Jumboman without shooting him.)
This was the first time I've reached 440m before the end (barely). The fireworks cause more growth the bigger the katamari is right at the moment the screen pans way out at the end, and in Katamari Forever it seems the change happens every 10 meters (at 300m and 310m at least), so it is possible the change might happen every 10m in BK too in which case it may have been advantageous to reach 440m :) (Eek, that's a roundabout, poorly-written explanation that probably won't help anybody :) )
Hmmm, now I've recently uploaded a video of this minigame in KF on Hard and in BK on Normal ... now should I upload videos in BK on Hard and in KF on Normal? :P (I don't think I will unless someone wants to see them.)

I will try to provide a little strategy guide to go with this video :)
To score well in this minigame it is important to reach the size-up diameters as early as possible, since the stage scrolls faster after a size-up, so sizing up early means more time for fireworks at the end.
It is also important to reach the end at as big a diameter as you can, mainly because the fireworks are bigger if you're bigger. In Hard I find it important to reach the end at exactly 300m or bigger, since it seems the fireworks create bigger size-ups if you reach the end above 300m rather than below 300m. However, to reach Punta's amazing world record would (I think) require reaching the end at considerably bigger than 300m! (I don't know how.)
And it is just as important to get good fireworks; fruit fireworks and football/tire fireworks add more diameter than the others. But as far as I can tell this is random, so it'll probably take more than one attempt to get the size you want.
I make sure I grab the bricks I reach at 2:11, partially to cause size-ups in order to reach the end faster and have more time for fireworks. If you could somehow reach the bricks already big enough so you could get them without backtracking, that would be a huge advantage!
If you can it is quite helpful to grab the big katamari right before the King at the end without shooting it. However, that's something I haven't pulled off in the Hard version. In Normal I often shoot the King from the side of the screen, so I can become large enough to get the katamari by picking up two mini-Kings. This strategy approximately turns a 720-meter attempt into a 750-meter attempt. But in Hard I just shoot that katamari as fast as I can! (to keep it from shooting)
It often doesn't seem to be a big deal if you take one shot every once in a while. However, getting shot multiple times or getting shot near the end can be big trouble.
some major threats: 0:58 - the big pear (4 shots at a time) 1:16 - the big robot (4 shots at a time) 1:30 - Havana (I've seen Havana hang around and keep shooting all the way into space) 1:48 - Marny (4 shots at a time, hard to pick up) 2:08 - the spinning Astro Jet (4 shots at a time right before the bricks)
2:22-2:28 - many things that shoot; if you use my strategy then move forward as fast as possible to avoid letting too many shots appear
2:33 - If this is somehow somebody's favorite katamari stage, then Miki is likely their least favorite cousin. She is the biggest threat of all. She seems impossible to pick up without taking at least four shots, and she shoots four shots at a time, over and over. Plus she's close enough to the end so each shot taken makes a big difference. I have tried playing as Miki, but in that case she is replaced by an Angel who is equally as deadly.
2:38 - the big katamari and vegetables like to push you back into Miki's shots 2:43 - shoot the katamari quickly; if it manages to shoot it's very bad 2:54 - shoot the big whatever-it-is quickly; if it manages to shoot it's very bad 3:02-3:09 - Shoot the soccer ball, katamari and King quickly for the same reason. Make sure you grab two mini-Kings.
... And if you make it to the end at at least 300m with 115-120 seconds left, then you're at the mercy of the fireworks. Fruit fireworks are best, and football/tire fireworks are second best. This time I started out with many mediocre fireworks in a row, but then I had better luck, and I ended with two fruit fireworks in the last 10 seconds (!) so overall it went pretty well. It could go better though; if you reach the end at the same diameter with the same amount of time you could possibly beat this score by quite a bit with better fireworks. But like I said, to reach Punta's world record would require something more :)

I don't think this is an exciting video at all :) I'm just posting it as a strategy guide. But I don't know how to get the score close to the best scores so it might not be a very good strategy guide :D Actually, I got my 115,000 personal top score a long time ago and I don't know how I did it. 113-ish is the best I know how to do.
Early on, the yellow stars seem to be worth a lot more points than anything else, so the best I know to do is to get as many yellow stars as you can while also growing rather quickly.
Then after the final size-up, I always see some rockets off to the left side of the screen. Those rockets are worth nearly 1000 points each, and I think if you miss them they are lost. Right near the end there are a whole bunch more of these.
I'm not sure but it seems to be best to hit all the bumpers at the top sooner or later, to make it impossible to fall off the bottom of the screen, but I'm not very efficient at doing it.
The UFOs at the end are essential to grab, worth something like 7000 points each, but if you size up fairly quickly you'll probably get them without trying. So I concentrate more on the rockets moving upward at the sides of the screen.

Well, there has been a ton of activity since my last scoreboard videos in both Beautiful Katamari and Katamari Forever, so I decided now would be a good time for another round of scoreboard videos, for the 3 people or so that would actually want to see a scoreboard video :)
Since my last KF scoreboard video Chomi and FoominFan have rewritten the top spot or two on many, many of this game's scoreboards. And they're both still at it! Meanwhile my very modest collection of #1s has dwindled to just about zero (lol) which is a good thing :)
This video wound up being very long. My apologies; I doubt anyone will watch the whole thing. Now that YouTube doesn't have a length limit I could actually make a video showing the top 100 on every scoreboard, and I may well do that eventually, but that video might wind up an hour long 0_0
As always, congrats to everyone whose user name appears in this video!
music: Mushroom Parade (quite possibly not a good choice, lol; it may get annoying)

Eek, I just sent a lot of videos here from Google Video (heh). Much thanks to ThumbsOfSteel for letting me know they were going kaput.
Looks like I'm reaching 5 years on YouTube, 2 million upload views and (for now) 500 subscribers at about the same time :) That is all much more thanks to the viewers than accomplished by me, especially since I'm hardly ever on YouTube anymore. Thanks!
@sacredskullkid That was me, lol, and now I definitely remember you :) I can't believe someone remembers that I played that Tetris version and got about 2 million points, which was much more about knowing the ins and outs of that version than actually being good at Tetris. Thanks for reminding me :)
