JRR. Tolkien the writer of Lord of the Rings grew up in early 20th century Edgbaston, Birmingham, close to a Victorian waterworks. The bog and two towers located in south Birmingham was the inspiration for JRR Tolkien's celebrated fantasy fiction The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
