About Me:

hey! I'm Janine. I go to one of the best art & design schools/ universities in Canada. ;)

I love filming concerts! although I have a really shit camera atm so it won't be able to film anything that's spetacular. hopefully I'll get a better one for my birthday or Christmas or something...

btw the person in my background is Natasha Khan. one of the most talented female musicians everrr! my favorite right now! I love her. :D her stage name is Bat For Lashes and she's amazing live so go see her if you have the chance! I wish I could see her but hopefully next time she comes here I will! :D

Also in case you were wondering my Attack In Black videos are the best videos that I have so watch them! :D and go see them in concert! they're amazing! :) and I met them last time they came and they're super nice, they watched all the openers even though there was barely anyone in the crowd at that time. I respect them so much. they make amazing indie rock music.

best radio station in the world = NME radio. it's pretty much flawless. :D
http://www.nme.com/radio/pl...
they don't broadcast worldwide anymore though. :(

Also I have a lot of videos coming soon! Hole/Courtney Love, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, millions of videos of Tegan and Sara, Wintersleep, City and Colour, Muse, I can't remember the rest but there's no more room on my computer for them but hopefully they'll be up soon! :(
Hometown:
the one and only Toronto
Country:
Canada
Occupation:
design student
Companies:
none as of right now.
Schools:
I went to the University of Toronto, George Brown College, took art classes at the Art Gallery of Ontario, and now I go to OCADU. (:
Interests:
drawing, painting, sewing things, taking art classes :D, sculpting, sketching, drawing portraits of people, designing things, going to art school :D, playing guitar even though I kinda suck right now but I know I will get better once I get lessons :D hopefully Ill get them this winter god it's taking ages though :/, drawing from photographs sometimes, if the photograph is interesting that is!, listening to the radio :D, requesting songs and emailing DJs, rock 'n roll music, going to concerts whenever I can!, going to rock clubs/venues, taking the TTC, buying stuff online, not going shopping outside because it's annoying, hating on all the dumb preppy douchebags, buying art supplies :D, hanging out on queen street west at night and going to bars and pubs.
Movies:
that 70's show, futurama, video on trial, the new music, the shift!, the simpsons, family guy, the wedge, don't ever watch TV though cause it sucks and there's NEVER anything good on! only watch it when other ppl are watching and if it's interesting/ educational and doesn't lower my IQ like fucking jersey shore. no one that has a brain watches that shit.
Music:
the rapture, the sounds, ladyhawke, yeah yeah yeahs, rage against the machine, rancid, the dandy warhols!, mgmt, fleetwood mac, the cure although I don't listen to them anymore but I still like them, the ramones, kevin drew of broken social, tegan and sara, courtney love and hole, lily allen, the strokes, jamie t, MSTRKRFT!, bat for lashes - natasha is sooo awesome! I have a slight obsession with her actually lmao, sebastien grainger and the mountains, M.I.A!, DFA 1979, metric, tokyo police club, broken social scene!, the stars, the smashing pumpkins, muse, dj shadow, radiohead, dinosaur jr, alexisonfire, cancer bats, attack in black, moneen, the shins, shotgun jimmie!, at the drive-in!, the gorillaz, the good, the bad and the queen, the arctic monkeys, blur, the offspring, old our lady peace, beck, the ataris, the saint alvia cartel, stop drop n skank, the flatliners, anything that's on the radio as long as it doesn't suck lmao, silverstein, comeback kid, bush X, pete doherty, no doubt, the aggrolites, gob, the vandals, blink 182, +44, some U2 songs, garbage, bif naked, greenday, some foo fighters songs (mostly old ones), and sooo much more...
Books:
the catcher in the rye, the outsiders, that was then, this is now, fifth business, the giver, creepers (it's actually better than it sounds, similar to "the outsiders" except it's from the UK), the mennyms, harry potter although I'm too old for it :\, the great gatsby, the crysalids, the golden compass, the NOW magazine especially for their amazing concert listings especially the fact that every single show ever is listed, eye weekly, exclaim!, Wikipedia, and anything worth reading, don't really read magazines anymore because they're useless, all the music magazines get old within like a week, the girly magazines are all fucking dumb and I dunno I guess the other ones are alright. I love reading NME magazine though cause they only talk about amazing bands and I agree with almost everything they say! but I wish they would ship to my house so I wouldn't have to go to the magazine store to buy it. not because I'm lazy but I'll have to pass by so many annoying people to get there! :\

I still enjoy art, but I think I'm gonna do it on my own time (not professionally). Right now, I do market research (nothing special & sooo not art-related I know!!) I'm just doing it until I can figure out what I really want to do. I feel I can always come back to the art thing & maybe even return to school in future if need be. I hope you're able to find out your path :) In school I appreciated some of the structure & focus they provided, but I think it's still important to make the work that you wanna make at the end of the day.

ah yes, OCAD. How d'you like it being called OCADU now? Ontario COLLEGE of Art & Design UNIVERSITY. D'you see the flaw in that? lol. I think it sounds a bit silly tbh. Seems like ocad's changing a lot still. Even near the end of my time there, it felt like it was getting more "academic." True now? I wonder how else it's changing...

I assumed the Illustration program was good (though not sure having not been in it). I saw it as being the design equivalent to the DRPT program in fine arts. I enjoy variety too, so I would hope at least that program would allow you more freedom in the things you wanted to draw/make (like you did at George Brown, which sound very cool btw). The competitiveness of graphic design scared me off at the time, but if you really wanna do it, you should go for it :) Or alternatively, take a non major in fine arts like you said.

Hey what's up!! :) Now I'm late in my reply (boo me! lol) Anyway, not to worry. Yeah, Iggy & the Stooges show was crazy!! I got there around 5, so I was at the very front & able to check out some of the opening bands. It was comfortable because it wasn't packed & I was able to sit down during breaks. Of course later, I turned around & *bam* wall of bodies!!! I can't believe I survived :D A friend of mine was supposed to be there, but was too sick to make it. I made sure to get at least some video so she could see some of the show (even now the whole thing is basically documented on youtube). It was really stupid of Yonge-Dundas Square to not show the performance on the video screens, that way you could've seen more where you were standing.

I was in their Multimedia program, focusing on Radio, Videography, Photography, Sound, and Journalism.

It was just great, and the area around Humber is beautiful. Lots of little My Pictures running around in the bushes, woop woop~
iamqqqqqqq (10 months ago)
No Ryerson for me, I went to Humber, in Mississauga, a few years back, though.

Maybe there is some magical way you can take on all of the courses you want, good luck!

Holy Fuck are pretty cool, though, they're from Toronto, aren't they?

Ryerson?

Hey Janine, good to see a new generation getting into The Jam. Best band on the F***ing planet. Check out Paul Wellers solo stuff, it's there to be enjoyed.
