La frase "enternecido saludo" es frecuentemente usada por el político, dijo uno de los familiares a Proceso. Sostiene también la investigación de la revista, que la búsqueda realizada en las inmediaciones del Rancho "La Cabaña" fue, desde el principio, un montaje orquestado por el gobierno federal y estatal con el afán de mantener la línea de investigación que apuntaba a la "desaparición", además, desde su inicio la familia solicitó que se retirarán para dar comienzo a negociaciones por Diego Fernández de Cevallos. El viernes por la noche, la familia de Diego Fernández de Cevallos emitió un comunicado pidiendo a las autoridades deslindarse de las investigaciones, el sábado, la PGR y la PGJ de Querétaro abandonaron el caso
