A little footage i pulled from my hard drive the other day. I have hours of footage of Leonard, but this is all i've captured, so I thought i'd put it together in a quick vid for youtube.
I met Leonard when I worked for the Culpepper and Merriweather Great Combined Circus. When we played Niland back in 1996, a bunch of us went out and found his crazy mountain and visited with him all afternoon. He surprised us all with his sweet nature and his boundless energy and charming gentleness. He was a guest of honor at our circus that night.
I've visited him a dozen times since then, and his work just keeps evolving and getting more complex and sophisticated. But Leonard remains the same: A kind and caring fellow, who always makes time for visitors no matter how many there are or what he is doing.
Lots of people talk about god's love, but Leonard Knight LIVES it. He's a desert hobo gypsy tramp with a heart of gold.
Leonard's a not just a folk artist but a folk Hero!
GO LEONARD GO!

Loneliness is next to godliness, or it used to be, way back in the way back when. This is a song about the postpartum blues benders, walks in the city, and the overarching meaninglessness of experience vs the keep on keepin' on.
From the album, PissShiver, which I made back in 1996. This song was recorded on a Yamaha four track tape recorder with a guitar and keyboard through a Zoom 10/10 effects processor.
Video footage from NYC New Years Eve 2007, where I followed the fantastic drunk for several blocks. Also featuring fights from San Francisco and Providence RI, among other images from other times and places.
