Vladislava Kravchenko was born on 18th July 1991 in Donetsk, Ukraine. Both of her parents were athletes, so she was brought up being very active and energetic. At the age of 5, she started gymnastics and by the time she was 7 she had already won various local competitions. When she was 9, Vlada and her mom immigrated to Malta. Vlada attended St. Michaels Foundation since junior 6 and finished secondary school in 2008. At school, she also enjoyed participating in performing arts, ballet and sports. Her favourite hobby is art, as she has a very creative and imaginative nature. When she had finished ordinary level examinations, she applied to St. Aloysious' College. Unluckily, the day before the orientation day she was involved in an unfortunate accident. When she was at a public manifestation in Qawra, a lighting structure collapsed and injured her spinal cord. She was in a very critical state and had to spend 4 months in hospital. This accident changed her life entirely, as she has been in a wheelchair since September 2008. In spite of that, she returned to studying as soon as she was discharged from hospital. Vlada successfully finished first year of sixth form few weeks ago. In addition, she strongly believes that she will get back on her feet. Her further plans are to participate in a stem cell research program at the Neurovita Clinic in Moscow. With the help of family and friends and the generosity of Maltese people she aims to raise funds for this cause, which can help her and other people in the future.
