In einem der wohl schönsten Abschnitte des Ruhrtals, im so genannten Muttental steht direkt am Rande der Ruhr die Ruinen der ehemaligen Burg Hardenstein.
Erbaut wurde die Burg, die erst nur als Herrensitz diente, zwischen 1345 und 1354. Die beiden Wehrtürme wurden ein Jahrhundert später an der Nordseite errichtet. Bis zum 18. Jahrhundert blieb die Anlage bewohnt und seit 1974 wird die Ruine von den „Burgfreunden Hardenstein e.V." gepflegt.
Wahrscheinlich wegen ihres mystischen Aussehens und der faszinierenden Umgebung gibt es zu dieser Burg eine Sage, die berichtet das einst ein unsichtbarer Zwergenkönig namens Goldemar zu Gast war beim Burgherren. Es wurde zusammen gespeist, getrunken und gefeiert. Der Küchenjunge war so neugierig darauf den Zwergenkönig zu sehen und verstreute Asche und Erbsen auf dem Boden um seinen Fußspuren folgen zu können. Daraufhin ergriff Goldemar ihn. Er kochte und verspeiste ihn und verliess die Burg, aber nicht ohne einen Fluch auf die Familie zu verhängen.
In one of the most beautiful sections of the Ruhr valley, in the so-called Muttental is right on the edge of the Ruhr, the ruins of the Castle Hardenstein.
The castle was built, which served only as a first manor, between 1345-1354. The two towers were built hundred years later, on the north side. Til the 18th Century inhabited the complex, and since 1974 the "Castlefriends Hardenstein" are care for this.
Probably also because of its mystical appearance and fascinating area of the castle there are also a legend that says that once an invisible dwarf king named Goldemar was a guest at the castle owners.
