The Republicans in 1964 nominated Barry Goldwater for president. Goldwater voted against the Civil Rights Act. Ronald Reagan campaigned for Goldwater in 1964 and also openly opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act. It makes no sense to believe that the majority of the party supported the Civil Rights Act when the national leaders of the Republican Party openly opposed it.
The LIBERALS moved this Nation forward. The CONSERVATIVES opposed all changes. LIBERALS abolished slavery--Gave the Women the Right to Vote--Established Child Labor Laws--Legalized Interracial Marriages--Abolished Segregation--Gave Women Equal Pay for Equal Work--Provided Insurance to all US kids—Provide under the New GI Bill a 4 yrs paid College Education to all US War Vets.
