This week we cover Eminem's first verse on Jay-Z's song renegade from his album The Blueprint. One of Eminem's most lyrically dense and emotionally driven verses. As a huge Eminem fan, this is a true honor to break down. I'll be teaching aspiring artists how to rap by analyzing Eminem's rhyme schemes, flow, metaphors, punchlines, etc.
Definitions to the terms used in the breakdown: BEATS: Equal measurements of time that form the structure to the instrumental BAR: Four beats in a row QUATRAIN: a grouping of four bars COUPLET: a pair of bars SETUP/PAYOFF FORMAT: When an idea/concept is formed in the starting bar and the idea/concept is concluded by the last bar. ONE-LINERS: When an idea or concept is expressed in one bar.
This series breaks down popular rap songs and rap battles on a technical basis. We analyze the artist's flow, rapping structure, rhyme scheme, wordplay, metaphor, etc. in that order. These breakdowns are designed to help aspiring artists find new ways to approach their songwriting in addition to helping those who don't listen to rap understand the intricacies or rap songwriting.
In other words mini Bar for Bar Breakdowns. We're taking a piece of the whole and remolding it into something of substance. These videos highlight individual aspects of a rap song. We might only look at one technique compared to the full array of lyrical features that we examine in the full breakdowns. This saves time (for me) and cuts out the fluff.
We teach you how to rap using more advanced techniques. These videos are for the rappers that are closer to the expert level of writing. We cover ways to extend your rhyme schemes, advanced wordplay, metaphors, complex literary concepts and more.
