Subbass -- Dubstep made in Germany

Electronic dancemusic has prospered and diversified the last decades. While in Germany Techno and House music have been the apparent dominating genres appreciated by the clubbers, Breakbeats and D`n`B just got particular attention. Dubstep makes a change and gathers Breakbeat and D`n`B heads, just as HipHop and Reggae socialized blokes and Techno lovers.The media hype on what-so-called Dubstep is not over yet, rather it is still growing. While established media is following the newest step, the most djs and large parts of the audience on a night would more likely cheer up to a ravy and dark halfstep sound, while a more garage or four-to-the-floor orientated tune will keep them dancing in the dawn.

This compilation wants to present some people out of the german dubstep scene.

This compilation can`t and doesn`t want to claim the representation of all the variety produced in Germany.

But it wants to show that there are some people for which the production of tunes is a big part of their passion in supporting the emergence and rooting down of sustaining structures for low frequency music.

Subbass 2 -- More Krautdubs

This is the follow up to the highly appreciated first release of the compilation series issued by the Subbass label. Started recently with the "Subbass -- Dubstep Made in Germany" issue the second release just lines up straight to that.
Again is tried to give an insight to the contemporary production standards concerning heavy bass music in Germany. The amazing and vast diversity of styles should convince the listener to see "Dubstep" as a phenomenon not only impacting in full effect inthe UK, but runs rampant global. Heavy Bass Music is rooting down internationally and by that breeding a new reception of dancefloor-music and music in general.
Subbass 2 -- More Krautdubs gathers again producers from all around Germany. Featured are good old friends from the last volume as well as some newcomers to the series. As always this issue can`t and don`t want to set the claim to represent the German dubstep scene in general and entirely. But it wants to show that there is a growing mass of people for which the production of tunes is a big part of their passion in supporting the continuous emergence and establishing of sustaining structures for low frequency music.

Nyinanyina is a pretty good yidaki player, definitely fast but maybe not as advanced technically as Adam Marrilaga and some of the other better yidaki players in eastern Arnhem Land. When I say "technically", I mean technique-wise: the embouchure, the movements of the tongue, the use of the vocal cords, etc.

In person, he sounds tremendously good as his technique is softer or "quieter" than aggressive, attacking players like Adam Marrilaga, the softer, gentler sounds of Nyinanyina not really audible in recordings.

Nyinanyina plays a yidaki made by old man Bruce Burrngupurrngu Wunungmurra. Burrngupurrngu called me up about this one when he was at his outstation insisting that it was an instrument for me. He said it had been used for a dhapi' ceremony at Gurrumuru and had a special voice. My doubts vanished when Bruce handed me the instrument and I put it to my lips. WOW! Now THAT'S a yirdaki!

My entry for the D&AD competition to create a finished music promo for Thom Yorke's "The Clock".

Synopsis

This music video is set in a dark, dead forest with very little life. It is in a world where, relating to the lyrics, time has run out. The simple style uses very few colours, which has created a clearer setting. Red objects serve as a warning for the character, as well as a reflection of how things used to be, especially in the case of the televisions that fall from the sky; whilst the black objects show physical and emotional lifelessness.

The dark character in the video represents the side of us that ignores the warnings and continues forward on the path to environmental catastrophe. This path is further illustrated in the video by a long strip of ground that leads only one way. It shows that we don't see an alternative; we just keep going forward regardless of the costs.

Eventually the character finds what he is looking for. The flower is the only bright object in this forest, and is situated right at the end of the path. It is the last one left. The character picks this flower despite this, as it is all that is left that can fuel his car. This is most obviously a metaphor for the greed for oil and the need to fuel high-powered vehicles, especially in the USA, but is also a more general metaphor for the disregard we have for the world in general and its environment. This leads to the conclusion of the video and the character driving away, and the last flower fading into nothingness.
