I am a large format photographer working in 4x5" and 8x10" film formats in both color and black & white. I use traditional equipment and techniques including the Zone System. I do all my own processing and my serious black & white work is still done in my darkroom although I do scan film for monitor viewing. My color work is also shot on large format film but it is then drum scanned and printed with a hybrid digital/analog process onto the finest traditional "wet" color papers.
There is a magic when working in a darkroom that is simply missing in digital work, in my opinion, and the results are often far superior as well. Being in complete control of all aspects of my photography with little or no automation, combined with the tremendous advantages that large format photography provides for my type of work is very important to me. It's a slow, careful, comtempletive process that is ideally suited to landscape photography and the technical quality that can be achieved is unsurpassed. Also, once film is scanned, digital technology can be applied, if necessary, just as it is with digitally captured images .
I am always happy to answer questions, especially about large format photography and darkroom work, so feel free to contact me if I can be of any help. I plan to add more technical videos as time goes on.
